Biographical Information

What makes you uniquely qualified for the Ishpeming City Council?

What are the top three priorities the Ishpeming City Council should address and what actions would you, as a council member, take regarding each of them?

My experience as a former Ishpeming City Council Member having served 8 years previously. I have a deep understanding of community and the issues facing our community. I believe in following our Charter and our Ordinances. I’m always available to listen to residents with any complaints and helping to resolve their complaints.
1. The General Fund. We need to be more fiscally responsible, we need the get a balanced budget sometimes we have to make some very hard decisions. We rely on staff to provide us with the information to make our decisions and by retaining a competent city manager that knows what he is doing is key to getting our finances in order. 2. Infrastructure. We need to continue improving our infrastructure and the only way we can do that is by pursuing grants and low interest loans. 3. Affordable Housing. We need to encourage developers to come in to meet the needs of all residents.

Education Bachelor's of Public Administration - Northern Michigan University
Growing up, my family was always involved in the community. After earning my Bachelor’s degree from Northern Michigan University in Public Administration, I began to pay more attention to local politics. I have experience with small business, volunteer organizations and event management. I have worked with people of different generations, viewpoints and pride myself on listening before making decisions. I am now ready to be more directly involved in shaping the future of the City of Ishpeming. I believe my education and experience make me uniquely qualified for the position of Ishpeming City Council.
Like many historic mining towns, Ishpeming faces complex issues, but our city is already taking proactive steps forward. My top three priorities are housing, infrastructure, and downtown development. First, housing. I will support ongoing development and collaborate with the Marquette County Land Bank to eliminate blighted properties. Enforcing rental codes and streamlining zoning will remove barriers to construction and remodeling, expanding housing options while protecting current taxpayers. Second, infrastructure. I support our "dig once" policy, while main corridors take priority, side streets cannot be overlooked. I will push to assess residential roads and secure state and federal grants so every neighborhood gets equal attention. Third, downtown development. Events like the Farmers Market show what makes Ishpeming vibrant. I will work with the DDA to leverage economic funds, support existing businesses, and attract new investment to showcase our communities bright future.
