Affordable housing and childcare remain out of reach for too many Mainers. Rising property taxes are a growing burden, and access to care is a crisis: we're losing maternity care and have already lost nursing homes in our region. I'm proud of work to ease these burdens, including investing in housing production and lowering co-pays for families participating in the Child Care Affordability Program. As co-chair of the bipartisan Property Tax Relief Task Force, I'm working on long-term reforms, building on relief we've already funded, like the Property Tax Fairness Credit. We also need to invest in resilient infrastructure, including transportation, housing, working waterfront, and reliable power and internet, so every community can thrive.
Hancock County faces challenges shaped by our geography and demographics: an aging population, a seasonal economy, and a coastline vulnerable to storms. Our nursing home shortage has hit the county hard, so I've pushed for additional funding to keep remaining facilities across the state afloat and make new ones possible here. Our working waterfront needs continued investment, including the $60 million I helped secure to rebuild infrastructure and support businesses after severe winter storms. I'm also working on property tax relief, more housing, resources for our schools, and reliable electricity service, so our rural communities aren't left behind.
I was raised in Ellsworth and continue to call Hancock County home, drawn by our vibrant community and beautiful surroundings. I'm a cartographer and GIS specialist and a certified home energy efficiency auditor. I'm also a Wilderness First Responder, a former volunteer firefighter, and a former Meals on Wheels driver. After two terms in the Maine House and two in the Senate, I remain a fierce advocate for Maine people and our shared environment. It's an honor to bring the ideas and stories of so many constituents to the State House, and I'm proud of what we've accomplished by working together, regardless of party or background. I’m running for re-election to continue my work on behalf of our community.
