I have prioritzed my efforts for next term to address those challenges. My top priority is making Maine more affordable for Mainers. This means tackling the costs people face every month, like housing, property taxes, health care, and energy. Second, I want to improve our energy system by using our current infrastructure more efficiently, so we can lower costs and boost reliability before asking ratepayers to pay for new projects. Third, Maine needs a stronger economy where businesses can invest, innovate, and create good jobs, and where workers can afford to live in the communities where those jobs are.
Nearly half of Maine’s electricity rate increases over the last five years have come from delivery costs. Our grid is built to meet peak demand, even when those peaks occur only a few hours a year. Better demand management, energy storage and smarter grid technology can help utilities avoid or delay expensive new transformers, substations and power lines. We should also make better use of infrastructure we already have. Utilities should have clear incentives to choose lower-cost alternatives when they save customers money. The goal is simple: make the grid as efficient as possible before asking Maine families and businesses to pay for more.
I make a difference by doing my homework, working with others, and staying focused on results. One legislator can't do everything alone, but my career relied on my ability to spot a problem, come up with a solution and make it happen. I also help individual constituents when they have trouble with state government and look for policy changes that can prevent those problems for others. My goal is to deliver real results that lower costs, improve services, and bring clear benefits to York, Ogunquit, and Wells.
