Maine’s greatest challenge is affordability. Working families and seniors are being squeezed by rising housing, food, energy, healthcare, childcare, and property-tax costs. These pressures also worsen our workforce shortage because people cannot accept jobs if they cannot find housing or childcare. Maine must encourage responsible housing development, strengthen healthcare and childcare access, and control state spending. We need to fund essential services while demanding accountability, eliminating waste, and protecting taxpayers. My focus will be on practical, Maine-based solutions that help families stay, businesses grow, and seniors remain in the communities they built.
District 85 is growing, but Standish and Steep Falls must not lose their rural character or become unaffordable. Residents face rising property taxes, limited housing options, childcare shortages, and long trips for some healthcare services. Manufactured-home residents are especially vulnerable to steep rent increases and decisions made by out-of-state corporate owners. I want to protect local decision-making, support responsible housing growth, strengthen childcare and healthcare access, and stop the state from shifting unfunded costs onto towns and property taxpayers. Growth should benefit the people already living here, not force them out.
I have spent more than 20 years serving local families and building a childcare business in Standish. I know what it means to meet payroll, navigate regulations, solve problems, and be accountable when decisions affect other people’s lives. I am not a career politician; I am a mother, grandmother, small-business owner, and community advocate who understands the pressures families face. I will listen, even when we disagree, do my homework, ask difficult questions, and explain my decisions honestly. I will bring practical experience, common sense, and a strong work ethic to Augusta while always remembering that I work for the people of District 85.
