Maine’s greatest challenge is affordability. Families are being squeezed by rising costs for housing, healthcare, electricity, heating fuel, food, insurance, and property taxes, while wages often fail to keep pace. Rural communities also face shortages of housing, workers, healthcare providers, and reliable infrastructure. We must strengthen public schools, rural hospitals, roads, bridges, and broadband while keeping state commitments to towns so costs are not shifted onto property taxpayers. We must also protect Maine’s clean water, forests, farms, wildlife, and working landscapes. These challenges require practical, bipartisan solutions that create good jobs and help young people build their futures here.
District 82’s challenges are rooted in its rural character. Residents often travel long distances for healthcare, work, and shopping, with no public transportation. Housing shortages make it difficult for young families and workers to remain here, while our aging population needs more medical care, emergency services, and in-home support. Roads, broadband, and cell service remain uneven across the District. Our economy depends heavily on small businesses, manufacturing, farming, forestry, tourism, and outdoor recreation. We must also protect the Saco and Ossipee Rivers, groundwater, lakes, forests, and working lands that sustain our economy and quality of life. Rural Maine needs solutions designed for rural communities, not cities.
I want voters to know that I am a lifelong educator, conservationist, Maine Guide, small-business owner, and community volunteer. My career has been devoted to teaching, and protecting the natural resources that sustain our economy and quality of life. I am an ordinary person hoping to do an extraordinary job for Western Maine. I will listen, study the issues, ask difficult questions, and work with anyone who has a good idea, regardless of party. I will bring a strong voice for conservation issues, which I believe are a foundation for our state’s future, along with energy, experience, curiosity, and a deep commitment to the communities of District 82.
