Keeping young people in the state. We have one of the oldest populations in the country. We have to be better at providing job opportunities to the graduates coming out of the colleges and universities in Maine and the country. We need to take the tax burden off of the elderly and less fortunate. People shouldn't have to worry about whether they will be able to stay in their homes, buy groceries, afford heat or gas for their car.. Healthcare is an issue for a lot of lower, middle class and elderly Mainers. With rural hospitals cutting services or completely shutting down what are the options for rural citizens.
After knocking on 2000+ doors and talking to hundreds of people the number one issue is high property taxes. That is an issue I want to address in Augusta. Also, affordability/cost of living issues i.e., Healthcare, childcare and education.

Having been a teacher and a coach we need to make sure our schools are preparing students to be able to succeed as adults.

Our environment is what makes Maine special. The Maine environment is why we all live in this beautiful state and we need to make sure we safe guard it for future generations.

We must stop fighting each other and work together to bring meaningful change as we move forward as a district and a state.
I grew up in Norway. I started working for my father at 10 years old and have been working ever since. I am a carpenter, beekeeper and small scale farmer using organic methods. I have worked in the restaurant business. I volunteer in my community. My wife and I have been married for 45 years. My K-12 education was in SAD #17. I went to UMPI and graduated with a degree in Physical Education. I am a former teacher and coached for 42 years in SAD #17. I know what it means to work hard and I will do my best to work for the people of District 81. I will listen and then give you my best answer. If I don't know the answer I will find someone that does. I'll be as open and honest as I can be.
