I think one of our greatest challenges is trying to encourage young families to move to Maine. We need to take care of our elderly population, while at the same time creating quality job opportunities and solid educational institutions to entice newcomers to our state.
This process needs to be done in a thoughtful manner. We certainly want to promote new economic development, but not at the cost of harming our natural resources; the forests, lakes and rivers that are unique to Maine and that we love so dearly.
I think one of our biggest issues is property tax affordability. Many of my constituents are on fixed incomes. As their taxes continue to rise, it’s becoming much more difficult to fulfill basic needs. We must find a way to address this, so that people don’t lose their homes.
I work very hard to stay connected with my constituents and to respond to their needs. I try to answer emails, texts and calls as promptly as possible. I feel that should be a priority for all legislators.
