The greatest challenges facing Maine all stem from affordability. The cost of housing, healthcare, and electricity are out of control. Working families are struggling to afford basic expenses because costs have spiraled for a myriad of reasons.
Second homes and short-term rentals have taken up a significant number of homes in my community, homes that could be filled with people that want to live in Camden and Rockport year-round. Our housing crisis is making it more difficult for doctors, nurses, teachers, public safety professionals, and others that support our community to find a place to live.
I grew up in Camden and I'm proud to have gone through our whole public school system. I came back after a decade away because I wanted to start a farm and serve my community. I have served on a Select Board, County Budget Committee, Broadband Committee, Transfer Station Board, Harbor Strategic Task Force, and helped save my former middle school from being demolished.
I view public office as a way to help people and level the playing field for working families. I will fight to tax second homes for out-of-state residents at a higher rate and to regulate short term rentals for non-primary residences. I will fight for a universal health care system right here in Maine. It's time for big ideas, not small tweaks to a broken system.
