Maine people are working hard, but the basics of life have become increasingly difficult to afford. Housing, property taxes, health care, food, energy and transportation costs are putting real pressure on families and seniors. At the same time, communities are struggling to maintain schools, roads, EMS and other essential services. We need to address affordability while building more housing, strengthening our workforce, protecting access to health care, and supporting the industries and communities that make Maine a place where people can build a life.
Representing rural coastal communities and several unbridged islands means geography affects nearly everything. Ferry service, health care and EMS, transportation, housing, working waterfront access and the future of our fisheries are essential to keeping our communities viable. I am also concerned about the growing property-tax burden as small rural schools face rising costs and changes in state funding. I want to ensure island and coastal communities have a strong voice in Augusta and the resources they need to thrive.
I believe representation starts with showing up and listening. I’m a lifelong Mainer, a working mother, and someone who spent years working in small businesses, nonprofits and community organizations before serving in the Legislature. My constituents don’t have to agree with me politically to know I will listen, do my homework and try to help. I work across party lines whenever I can because my job is to make sure the people and communities I represent have a voice in Augusta.
