I seek re-election as City Director for District 2 in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas. As City Director, my duties are to represent my constituents at City Hall and ensure that they receive all the services and protection the city provides. I'm also responsible for being the legislative voice of my district at the municipal level.
I have been volunteering in politics since I was a little girl campaigning for my father. Since then, I have volunteered in local, state and national races. In Minnesota, I served as the educational consultant for Mark Dayton’s gubernatorial campaign. As a steward for the American Federation of Teachers in Minneapolis, I helped to screen political candidates for endorsements. In Arkansas, I've learned a lot during my first term as City Director. I learned mostly by talking and listening to voters. The people always influence how I vote in City Hall Chambers.
I'd like to introduce a local Tenant Bill of Rights to protect low-income and vulnerable residents who endure unsafe and unsanitary living conditions and inadequate air conditioning during heatwaves. I will continue meeting with management companies, bringing awareness to the cause, lobbying state legislators, and appealing to my colleagues so we can prioritize this issue and take some legislative action. Hopefully our efforts will reverberate across the state.
