A Yes Vote Means
Brugeman is a true public servant. A vote for Stacey means selecting someone who will vote for you.
A No vote means
Stacey is a rare non-partisan candidate. Pulling a straight party ticket overlooks the opportunity to consider her.
A few years ago, I helped launch the Parent Teacher Organization at Leland Public School, and more recently I served as that group's Board Liaison—which meant becoming a regular at School Board and Township Board meetings. I also serve on the Leland Yacht Club Foundation and have an extensive resume of similar leadership experiences. In preparation to serve, I have attended nearly every Township meeting at every level. I've reviewed budgets and audits. I’ve toured the wastewater treatment plant and have inked a Fire & Rescue ride-along. More than any one leadership or due diligence experience, however, it is my interest in listening to all sides, helping people know how to be heard, and identifying common ground will be most valuable.
This winter, peers I deeply respect asked if I would consider running for Township Trustee and, with my two-year term as Leland Public School's Board Liaison winding down, the timing made sense. The more I learned about the Trustee role specifically, the more I felt that what I'd been doing for our school community—paying attention, asking thoughtful questions to seek an
accurate understanding, helping information move calmly and clearly between people—might be useful at the Township level too. I'm a national journalist by trade, so that orientation comes naturally to me, and is the reason why I started Township
Tuesdays this spring. This biweekly newsletter is open to all area residents and has been a welcome opportunity to give back.
There are so many things we need to work as a community to consider—the inherent limitations of our general fund, investing in our existing assets before it is too late, long promised road repairs and park improvements, reviewing our Zoning Ordinance to preserve and protect this special place for future generations, cataloguing and organizing existing systems that will enable a new generation to lead in due time, and more. But honestly, none of this can be addressed without 1. restoring trust, 2. improving communication, and 3. encouraging public participation from our wise and experienced community of engaged citizens—all three of which are within easy reach and will be non-negotiable on Day One.
The good news is that I have already established some of this. Citizens can email me at a dedicated email address, townshipstacey [at] gmail [dot] com; follow and DM me on Instagram [at] townshipstacey; and subscribe to my Township Tuesdays' newsletter—which often includes links to submit opinions and questions. In addition, if elected, I plan to host routine office hours each week for those who prefer an in-person conversation and want to have a signup sheet at all Township Board meetings for those who wish to connect with their Trustee directly.

As a Trustee of Leland Township I would bring substantial knowledge and experience to the position because of my background in and continued involvement within Leland Township and Leelanau County government. I am devoted to public service and I will strive to always be an open minded, thoughtful, responsible and accountable elected representative for all the constituents of Leland Township.
I have been a policy advocate for over a decade and also have ran for office before. During my education years ago, I realized that much of what we worry about in society today can be remedied with effective policy and governance. Leland Township needs strong leadership that is able to enforce the rules and be able to listen to the concerns and issues the township faces without a bias or predisposed notion of things. That is what I intend to bring as Trustee.
There are very serious issues facing Leland Township today.
There are currently multiple lawsuits making their way through courts. I will not comment on what could be misconstrued due to my ongoing public service roles on behalf of Leland Township.
That being said, I reiterate my commitment to the constituents of Leland Township that I will be an open minded, responsible, transparent and accountable Trustee, and let the public record of my actions and service to the community speak for itself.
I encourage constituents to contact me directly, as I prefer to talk to folks about issues sooner rather than later.
I generally prefer a phone call, but text or email will be addressed in a timely fashion as well.

I am a former Leland Township Clerk for 4 years during the 1990s, and I was also a Planning Commission Member. During that time, my role as Township Clerk I worked with the Harbor Commission, the Fire Department, the Parks & Recreation, and the Sewer and Cemetery Committees. In that position, I was responsible for budgeting and financial reporting. I come into this with substantial experience so I am not starting from scratch.
I had moved away for a few years, and when I returned I decided I wanted to get back being involved in Township government. I always enjoyed my work for the Township. It is my desire to continue to serve community that I love and grew up in.
The first part of the job of being a Township Board member is being fiscally responsible with Township resources. I have substantial experience doing that. Second, listening to the taxpayers, gathering facts and following up on the important issues raised by taxpayers. It is important to understand the needs and priorities of the Township residents. Third, assuring we have well maintained parks. I would be inspecting each park regularly to make sure they are in good shape, well-maintained and safe.
I would be keeping regular office hours and making sure I am readily accessible to address concerns and issues. I am out and about the community most of the time so I want people to know I am accessible. Also, I do not have any other job that would preclude my availability.
