I’m running because I believe strong schools build strong communities. As a Lawrence Township graduate and parent, I bring firsthand experience, along with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and an MBA. My focus is on teacher retention, student attendance, academic success, fiscal responsibility, and listening to our community. I’m here to serve the district—not myself. I’m committed to working collaboratively, asking tough questions, and putting students first.
The best way to attract and retain quality teachers is to create an environment where educators feel valued, supported, and able to grow. That means offering competitive compensation, meaningful professional development, strong mentoring for new teachers, and a supportive workplace culture. I also believe we must listen directly to teachers about what brings them to Lawrence Township, what keeps them here, and what challenges may cause them to leave.
Student safety and well-being should be a top priority. We need safe schools, clear anti-bullying policies, strong communication with families, access to counselors and support services, and a culture where students feel respected, heard, and safe reporting concerns. We should also regularly review safety practices, listen to students, staff, and families, and make improvements when needed.
My approach is to balance fiscal responsibility with investing in what directly supports student success. I would prioritize funding for teachers, student safety, attendance, academics, and essential programs, while carefully reviewing spending for efficiency and long-term sustainability. Every major investment should have clear goals, measurable results, and accountability to our community.
I believe charter schools have a place in public education, but public funding should come with strong accountability. Under current Indiana law, charter schools operate independently and are overseen by an authorizer. I support transparency, responsible use of public funds, and exploring stronger local involvement where state law allows. Public dollars should come with public accountability and clear expectations for serving students.

I have seen how leadership on the Board can impact the overall health of the school district. It will take knowledgeable, vigilant leadership to maintain our exceptional schools and plan for the next 20 years.
I’ve been an urban educator for 25 years, first as a teacher in Denver Public Schools and later as a professor/researcher of urban teacher education. I understand classroom teaching, educational leadership, urban school systems, and educational policy. I live and breathe this everyday.
Attention to recruiting and retaining excellent teachers is a top priority. LT has been leading the way in building a pipeline of new teachers from the community that understand our children and families. We need to sustain these grow-your-own efforts in partnership with local universities and keep working collaboratively to retain talented teachers and leaders. Monitoring and improving the working conditions of teachers is essential to teacher retention.
LT schools consults safety experts to develop their safety protocols, and they communicate these to families regularly. My children feel safe going to school everyday, and we need to keep it that way. I expect district leadership to report to the Board and community the ways they are continually enhancing safety protocols.
The well-being of youth takes all of us, and it starts with skillful adults and shared goals that help put us all on the same page for how we treat and support each other.
Reduced funding for public schools and municipalities is a challenge. The priority is always providing children with high-quality educators responsible for their safety and learning. Our district is on top of cost-effective innovations to support learning, as well as ways to reduce operational costs. To retain teachers and continue to provide the best education for students, we need to prioritize the financial health of the district and advocate to policy-makers for the resources needed.
Charter schools can offer a choice in places where traditional public schools have not adequately served the community. In Lawrence, we are fortunate to not be in that situation. My priority is to make sure every school in LT continues to be innovative and responsive to community needs. Strong school leaders help district leadership understand where the schools need to adapt and improve.
