Eugene Lewis brings more than 27 years of experience in K–12 education, including service as an educator, intervention counselor, athletic director, coach, mentor and youth advocate. A Florida Memorial University graduate, he has built his career around helping students succeed academically, athletically and personally. His leadership extends into nonprofit, civic and community organizations focused on mentoring, health, education and youth development. Lewis is running for the South Redford School Board to bring experienced, student-centered leadership to the district and strengthen the connection among our schools, families and community. His guiding principle is simple: Our city, our youth, our future—let’s build it together.
My priorities are student achievement, safe and supportive schools, fiscal accountability, teacher and staff support, and stronger family and community partnerships. I will advocate for measurable academic goals and transparent reporting so families can see both progress and areas requiring improvement. I will support responsible stewardship of district resources, effective student-safety practices, and initiatives that help recruit and retain excellent educators. I also want to expand partnerships with businesses, colleges, trades, nonprofits and community organizations to create mentoring, career exploration, athletics and postsecondary opportunities. Every decision should answer one question: How does this improve outcomes for our studen

I am running for re-election to the South Redford Board of Education because there is still important work ahead. I want to ensure our students continue to have the opportunity, support and quality education needed to succeed. As current President of the Board of Education, I am proud of the progress we have made. During my leadership, we established a new Board Policy and bylaws manual, developed our District Strategic Plan, Mission and Vision, continued vital bond improvements throughout our schools. I also encouraged our board members to pursue ongoing professional development and certification, enabling us to grow as leaders and better serve our district. Because of this dedicated work, we earned recognition as an Honor Board.
As a South Redford Board Member, my top priorities are boosting academic achievement, supporting our educators, student well-being, and fiscal responsibility. We must keep strengthening academic recovery through early literacy and hands on programs. We must support our educators with great working conditions. I will support investments in dedicated counseling resources and community health partnerships. I will ensure transparent oversight so every dollars directly supports our students and teachers. I ask for your vote so we can continue moving South Redford Schools forward together.

I am currently finishing up my first six year term on the South Redford School Board. I am currently the School Board Secretary. I am running for re-election to continue the work of making South Redford Schools one of the top school districts in Wayne County. Being elected to the school board during Covid and a 79 million bond construction has given me experience in working with South Redford education during a global pandemic and major construction on all of South Redford's school building. Now that we are out of the global pandemic and we are finishing up bond work, I want to see South Redford ramp up educating our students to the best of our ability.
Making sure all students are learning to the best of their ability and having the resources necessary to assure this learning is accessible. I know we have made strides to improve how students learn in our district by updating curriculums that are outdated K-12. This needs to continue, we must have curriculum that best caters to the learning styles and abilities of our current students. Student attendance continues to be a priority that continues to be addressed. Students can't learn if they are not in school to learn. We must continue to address why are students are not in school and partner with these families to see how the district can assist with making sure our students are in school.
