Occupation/Current Profession Attorney- Owner LJE Law Firm
Education Northville High School 1979, BS Engineering, MSU 1984, JD Wayne State University Law School, Magna Cum Laude, 1989
I am a longtime Northville resident, attorney, small business owner, and voracious reader who has used the Northville library since childhood. I have practiced business law for more than 35 years, including with national law firms and a global consulting firm, and now operate my own law practice. I have also served on nonprofit boards and in professional leadership roles. I am running for the Northville Library Board because of my longstanding connection to Northville and the Northville Library, and because I want to give back to my community. I would bring experience in governance, business, financial oversight, and problem-solving, along with a thoughtful and collaborative approach to the Board.
I believe the Library’s key issues are responsible expansion, program growth, and strengthening community connections. I would support careful evaluation of expansion options, with attention to community needs, long-term flexibility, and fiscal responsibility. I would encourage program growth that responds to changing demographics and technology, including AI, and serves residents of all ages and backgrounds. I would also support strengthening partnerships with schools, local organizations, Northville City and Township, and outreach to residents who may not regularly use the Library. As a trustee, I would listen to residents, ask questions, carefully review alternatives, and work collaboratively with the Board and Library staff.

I am a nineteen year resident of Northville and have participated over the years in several important local task forces and committees aimed at bettering the community for our citizens. I bring thirty plus years experience working in a leadership position for a major Property Casualty insurance company and have served as a city council member in a Michigan community prior to moving to Northville. I am running for the Northville Library Board of Trustees because I believe strongly in the importance of our local library and the need to ensure the library remains well-funded, well-run and responsive to community needs.
The library is currently at a crossroads, reviewing community survey feedback on how best to prepare our library for the future. The Board of Trustees will need to provide leadership and guidance in order to adapt to technology trends, media usage by patrons, changing demographics and community expectations. Anchored in downtown Northville, the Board must ensure the library continues to be a gathering place for neighbors and our community as we work to ensure our library programs and services evolve as needed and our building is accessible, welcoming and functional. With my skill set and leadership experience, I will partner with the Board to provide careful oversight of the library's budget, policies, facilities and long-term planning.

I’ve been a resident of Northville for the past 35 years, raising 2 children in our wonderful community. I worked for the City of Northville for over 20 years. My career started as the Membership Director at the Northville Chamber of Commerce and then I transitioned to the Downtown Development Authority as the Director of Marketing and Communications. I loved working in the community that I called home. I built relationships with all the businesses and nonprofits in Northville. I want to continue giving back to our town and the library is the perfect place to stay involved.
The community of Northville and beyond continues to grow and the library needs to expand their building and services to keep up with this growth. I am excited about the potential to expand the current building into a state of the art facility that accommodates our communities needs.

I’ve lived in Northville for over 30 years, where I raised two daughters. I spent a career in television advertising and management, and have volunteered for a number of nonprofits. I’ve been on the Northville District Library Board of Trustees for over two years, serving on the finance and policy committees. I believe the library enhances the quality of life in Northville, offering educational opportunities, information access, and cultural enrichment for residents of all ages and interests. I'm running to ensure the library continues its excellent work, providing resources that matter to the community. Northville values its library and I'm honored to be part of the team that keeps it relevant and loved by its patrons.
As our community grows, and the demand for space and use grows, we are looking to see what our growth opportunities are. The community surveys indicate support for a library expansion on our current location. As a Trustee, my job is, with the rest of the board and our Director, to explore this opportunity, while keeping community members involved at every step. As we move down this path, I will work to ensure fiscal responsibility, engage in thoughtful long range planning, explore collaboration with other libraries for innovative programs and offerings, see that we offer collections and resources that matter to the community, and focus on all residents' needs, from our youngest to our most experienced patrons.
