Qualifications
Teaching in Public K-12 schools and Administrative expereince in High Schools. Additionally I have served as a faculty members in higher education for many years and have worked with undergraduate, master's degree and doctoral degree teaching candidates. I am still teaching and love being an educator.

B.S. in HPE from the University of Maine; M.S. in HPE from Marshall University and Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction with a focus in Sport Pedagogy from Virginia Tech
As a current Board Member, I desire to continue to support the Mission of Beaufort County Schools that provides a personalized approach and prepares graduates to compete and succeed in an ever-changing global society and career marketplace.
1. Support diverse learning environments for Pre-K - Grade 12 students. This includes early childhood learning programs.
2. Promote physical and mental health and wellness for all students, faculty and staff. This includes providing a safe environment in all schools.
3. Identify and promote innovative programs that encourage interactive learning. This includes the continued development of Career and Technical programs and environments as well as visual and music arts.
School Board meetings, committee meetings and Board Work Sessions are open to the public and live-streamed on the County Channel. We have a daily updated web site that keeps the public informed. We follow Robert's Rules of Order and a Coherent Governance structure to make sure meetings are well-organized, efficient and effective. We have moved the Executive Session to the end of meetings to better accommodate the public and public comments.
All 32 schools are unique as are the 21,489 students who engage in a diverse learning environment throughout Beaufort County. We have a wide range of programs and are adding new facilities based on the needs and interests of our students. We identify issues and develop strategies to address those issues every day. We address English Language Arts, Math, Science and History at all grade levels and have model programs to address all learners and their unique needs.
The challenges of technology, cybersecurity, digital privacy and the rapid growth of AI and AI security are issues the Board, Administration, Staff and Faculty address every day. We are all undergoing active training about how to best protect electronic devices from threats, maintain confidentiality, integrity and ensure systems and data are functional and safe.

I am running to serve. I believe leadership means listening before making decisions, being willing to ask tough questions, taking responsibility for outcomes, and always keeping students at the center of conversations. My top 3 priorities are Academic Achievement-Making sure students receive the education, resources, and support they need to reach their full potential. Fiscal Responsibility-Applying sound business and financial principles to protect taxpayers’ dollars and ensure resources are directed toward student successes, and School Safety-Supporting safe, secure, and positive learning environments where students can focus on learning achievements.
I believe the school board should meetings should follow the S.M.A.R.T method where meetings have a (S) specific agenda, (M) measurable outcomes, (A) attainable results, (R) realistic goals, and be (T) timely executed. There ought to be meaningful public participation where parents, students, and residents are able to submit questions and comments. Relevant documents should be regularly published before each meeting. There should be community gatherings where we listen to concerns outside of normal board meetings, and board members should make sure they are accessible through email, texts, and social media.
The board should regularly examine outcomes by schools and individual student subgroups to review academic performance, growth, and educational needs and develop a funding plan to provide additional resources needed to serve students with greater needs. I believe early intervention is key. Simple steps to identify the student's needs, intervene using various resources, measure performances and outcomes, and then adjust if needed can ensure actionable steps and outcomes are working. I also believe it is important to retain qualified teachers and educational professionals by offering leadership opportunities, retention incentives, and career development pathways. The board should also expand partnerships through parent and community programs.
I believe we first must protect students and their information. Privacy should be a core responsibility while we make sure technology remains a tool for learning. Technology should never be considered as a replacement or substitute for teaching but should be used thoughtfully to support learning. I would support developing clear guidelines for how AI is used by students and teachers.
