Qualifications
The unique opportunities afforded me by my military career have equipped me to deal with a lot of different situations, from routine administration, training and leadership to different local and international events and crises. The experiences and people I have encountered as a journalist have also contributed to my ability to handle many different situations and positions.
Education
BA Journalism Cum Laude, Norfolk State University 1985; AA University of Maryland, Far East Extension 1981; U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, Newport, RI, 1994; additional courses in military leadership and professional training.
I believe voters should have a choice in who represents them within the school system.
I believe education should begin at birth and continue through adulthood. Once you have it, you can spring anywhere.
Encourage county council to find developers who will provide housing for a working community.

Public tax dollars should go to public schools. Allocating monies for vouchers from the state’s General Fund under the guise of the Educational Scholarship Trust Fund is stealing money from public schools.
Perception is fact, no matter what the facts may be. Transparency is critical all the time. Always get ahead of an issue with a full explanation unless confidentiality must prevail. It is easier to put out a match than put out a fire.
No one likes three-hour meetings. Hold to the published agenda, do allow timed public comment, reveal executive session results if feasible.
The BoE is responsible for getting the superintendent the resources he or she needs to support the primary purpose of a school system: educating students and adults. If more specialized needs are discerned, then they must be found. This staff appears to actively seek programs and personnel to fill those needs. In general, students, teachers and parents are supposed to be a team, but there will be challenges when parents would but can’t or could but won’t participate in their child’s education. That’s when the district needs to do what it can to fill those gaps. The goal is to graduate educated young adults who will succeed in life. The school system is integral in that success.
Make use of the cyber resources in Beaufort County: South Coast Cyber Center, TCL and USCB. Organize a cyber course for teachers, bring experts into the classroom, instruct students on cyber risks. AI can be useful, but use caution. It should not do student homework, because AI will repeat what it knows, and humans are feeding it.
