I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan in December 1992. I earned and have maintained a Professional Engineering License in the State of Michigan since 1997. I was first elected to the Village of Dexter Council in March 2004. Since that first election, I have been honored to serve in the roles of Village Trustee (March 2004 to Dec 2007), Village President (Dec 2007 to Nov 2014) and Mayor of the City of Dexter (Nov 2014 to Present). My wife and I raised two daughters in Dexter and we have family living in town as well.
As a civil engineer, I work daily with communities to help them take care of their infrastructure and to make their public areas safe and accessible for all users.
I will continue to promote open and transparent communication within our community, on our City Council and with our residents. I always try to listen first and respond second. Our role as an elected official is to look out for the short and long term interests of the City of Dexter, our residents, businesses and all the visitors that help make our City a vibrant place to live, learn and recreate. I will continue to encourage questions and open discussion.
Over my past 22 years as an elected official, I have worked hard to get to know our residents, our staff and the other Council members that have served along with me. I will continue to advocate for fiscal responsibility, and strive to provide the best services we can afford.
We need to continue to invest in our public infrastructure, including our trail network, parks, roads, water system and sanitary sewer system. As a community, our water and sewer funds accumulated a significant amount of debt back in the late 1980's and early 1990's. We need to remain diligent in our efforts to pay off that old debt so that we can re-purpose those funds in ways that keep our water and sewer systems safe and reliable. We need to continue to invest in our road system.
The cost of public safety continues to rise and we need to find ways to balance the cost of these important services with the service itself. We will continue to keep our eyes open and evaluate the best ways to provide excellent service in everything we do.
Our parks, trail network and access to the surrounding natural areas and water ways (i.e. Huron River and Mill Creek) are certainly on the list of Dexter's greatest assets. Our community is very walkable, with connectivity to the nearby Metroparks and other communities. We need to maintain these natural areas and the boardwalks, pathways and playground equipment that our citizens and visitors enjoy. Our recreational assets are a great economic engine and draw people to our downtown and our local businesses.
I look forward to seeing you on the trails around our town. Please enjoy them and thank you for helping support our community.
