VOTE411 Voter Guide

State Representative District 87

Together, the House of Representatives and the Senate constitute the Connecticut General Assembly (CGA). The General Assembly enacts legislation dealing with state appropriations and finance, public welfare, the environment, public works, housing, education, civil and criminal laws, and other matters. The Senate tries all impeachments of executive and judicial branch officials. In Connecticut, members of the state’s legislative body, the General Assembly, must be at least eighteen years old and reside in the district they represent. Senate and House members serve two-year terms. Candidates were asked to respond to questions developed by local Leagues of Women Voters (LWV). Candidates enter their replies directly into Vote411, and replies are not edited by the LWV.This is the link to the CGA website: https://www.cga.ct.gov/This is the link to Sample Ballots for each Town found on the Secretary of State website: https://portal.ct.gov/sots/election-services/town-ballots/2026-november-town-election-ballots

I am a cool-headed doctor, a dedicated mentor, a gifted negotiator, an enthusiastic community servant, and a concerned resident. My years spent with my sleeves rolled up in the emergency room have alloyed with a sincere readiness to improve our district, our state, and by transition, our country. As an emergency veterinarian, I have daily experience in going toe-to-toe against overwhelming odds and delivering on the improbable with courage and creativity. I routinely make challenging but evidence-based and compassion-centered decisions. I took an oath to remain conscientious, ethical, and dignified in all things. I believe that extends beyond our pets and to our communities.
Electricity Break up the duopoly of UI & Eversource and hold them accountable for predatory pricing. Incentivize and support public utilities. Support serious investment in renewable green energy.

Property Taxes Hold accountable large corporations who have dodged property tax hikes over the past decade. Advocate for reduced reliance on residential property tax, as CT is disproportionately dependent on that tax base. Revise the educational cost sharing (ECS) formula to increase support from the state level instead of putting constant strain at the town level.

Grocery Prices Fortify and invest in SNAP benefits. Support universal breakfast and lunch for children to help improve bargaining power and bring down prices for everyone.

Transportation Costs Support the expansion of public transportation infrastructure, including walkable communities, and subsidized fares. Support and incentivize the sale of EVs and hybrid vehicles.
The foundational amount needs to be revised to keep pace with inflation (as it currently does not). There should be advanced revision to better support special education needs and mental health support. Consider including funding for universal breakfast and lunch for all students. Set goals for the ECS formula to provide minimum 50% support per district, rather than the current average support amount of roughly 20% per district.
Mental health support should be subsidized or free within public schools to address all students before they become adults with worsening problems. Decoupling healthcare coverage from employment would help improve bargaining capability at the state level. In a phased fashion, the goal would be to cover all CT citizens with state-level benefits starting with seniors and families. Overall coverage would improve and cost-per-person would decrease dramatically. This strategy would help support small businesses, parents with young children, and individuals with disabilities that may want to work but cannot lose their state-funded health coverage.

It is very important for short-term public health and safety to help support coastal communities. However, long-term strategy should include corporate pollution accountability, green energy investment, environmental protections (e.g. wetland and forest restoration), and evidence-based infrastructure development for new communities, e.g. improved building techniques and stormwater runoff reduction.
