I would rate Michigan’s education system a B-. We have many gifted and dedicated teachers, but our schools remain underfunded in areas including per-pupil funding, teacher pay and benefits, and facility maintenance. I support increasing and stabilizing education funding, improving teacher compensation and retention, and ensuring schools have the resources students need to succeed. Standardized testing can be a useful tool for measuring progress, but I believe there is too much emphasis placed on testing scores alone, and we should support a more well-rounded approach to evaluating student success.
I support policies that ensure hard work is rewarded with fair pay and that working families can afford to live in the communities they call home. That includes protecting collective bargaining rights, supporting union jobs, raising wages, expanding access to affordable housing, lowering healthcare and childcare costs, and investing in career training and public education. As a nurse and mother of four, I understand how rising costs impact families every day. Michigan’s economy should work for workers, not just corporations, and no one working full time should struggle to afford basic necessities.
Michigan families should not have to choose between keeping the lights on and paying their bills. We need an energy approach that balances reliability, affordability, and environmental responsibility. I support investing in a diverse energy strategy that includes renewables, modernizing the electric grid, and strengthening infrastructure so communities are better protected from outages and extreme weather. We must also hold utility companies accountable for reliability and fair rates while expanding energy efficiency programs that help lower costs for families. Protecting our environment and protecting working families should go hand in hand.
I support the constitutional protections of due process, First Amendment, and Fourth Amendment rights for every person in Michigan. These rights are fundamental to a fair justice system and reflect core constitutional principles of due process and equal protection under the law. Any changes I would support must strengthen civil liberties, ensure accountability, and uphold constitutional protections.
