I'd rather look at it a different way. Michigan's education system needs major improvements, from funding that needs significant increases, probably a complete overhaul considering school of choice and charter schools are decimating entire districts. The teacher workforce needs improvement, from the improving teaching requirements to pay and benefits and classroom support. Our goal should creating be optimal environment for learning and we know what this entails, but we are choosing to not execute the changes. I personally don't care for standardized testing but there are reasons to continue their implementation to evaluate progress.
I would first and foremost Focus on education and skills training with a good public education policy from prek to college and ensure that all of our employers in Michigan provide a wage that would ensure that our workers are able to be independent and productive citizens in their own communities. If you work 40 hours a week, you should be able to afford housing, food and shelter without government welfare and subsidies. Same goes for corporations, corporations shouldn't be posting profits or profit sharing while taking government welfare and subsidies.
In a perfect world the people would own the utilities that they rely on such as electric, water and gas and we would remove the greedy corporations from raping and pillaging Americans. In the short term I would focus on nuclear power generation to overcome our energy shortages and I would focus on green energy in the long term with the goal zero carbon emissions and require large corporations to be responsible for paying their fair share and ensuring that they are also net zero or otherwise be taxed accordingly to recover their carbon emissions. Shut down line 5. We have an obligation to the entire world as Michiganders to protect the lakes.
I would focus on ensuring all non-citizens be registered with the state and have an avenue to obtain proper documentation to work, own property and pay taxes in the state and have access to a free pathway for us citizenship. Existence should not be illegal.
