Morris Plains is an extraordinary community, but like many towns in northern New Jersey, we face significant challenges: traffic and congestion, as well as pressure on our green spaces and remaining undeveloped land.
Finding solutions starts with smarter planning and better listening to residents.
That means:
• Making sustainability a consideration in every aspect of Borough government.
• Creating meaningful opportunities for residents to share their ideas and hopes for the future of Morris Plains.
• Proactively shaping our Master Plan—and, in turn, our zoning and planning decisions—around the goals our community has identified.
My professional and volunteer work has centered on three things: finding the facts, making complicated issues understandable, and working to create change.
As a top editor at Hearst, Condé Nast, and Children’s Television Workshop, and later as a communications consultant to Fortune 500 and regional companies, I learned how to find the facts and present them in ways that matter to people.
I also believe in making a difference where you live. I’ve served as President of the Morris Plains Board of Education and the Education Foundation of Morris Plains, Communications Chair at Impact100 Garden State, and co-founder of Plan Better Morris Plains, an advocacy group for thoughtful planning.
These experiences have taught me: Listen carefully. Check your facts. Details matter. Make information accessible. And remember that change takes time, persistence, and hard work.
Strategic planning can help Morris Plains attract new businesses while preserving the character of our neighborhoods. We should streamline permitting, work proactively with property owners to put underused spaces to productive use, and make it easier for businesses to communicate with Borough officials and get answers.
We also need a clear plan for reducing speeding on Speedwell Ave. and creating a safer and more pedestrian-friendly downtown.
In the near term, we can support our existing businesses through local events and promotions that bring shoppers and diners to town. I strongly support the work of Downtown Morris Plains and believe the Council should be an active partner—not only with them, but with the many resident-led groups that contribute countless volunteer ours to help make our community vibrant.
The Borough of Morris Plains does not control immigration enforcement, but its effects can be felt through its residents, families, businesses, and schools, and relationship with law enforcement.
We are fortunate to have a caring and competent police department that is committed to following the law and maintaining trust with residents. The Borough should be sure all groups in town—school and municipal employees as well as residents—understand their rights and responsibilities with respect to state and federal law. We must also ensure that every resident feels safe reporting a crime or seeking help from local government.
Both environmental quality and transportation require us to think ahead and plan carefully.
Sustainability should be part of every planning and development decision. That means protecting green space, planting more trees, encouraging energy-efficient buildings, and making better use of sites that are already developed.
We also need a comprehensive stormwater plan that identifies areas most vulnerable to flooding and addresses them before problems become emergencies.
I believe the creation of an Environmental Commission would greatly facilitate these priorities.
Transportation is part of the same picture. We should promote our train station and make it handicap-accessible, as well as encourage development and pathways that make it easier to get around without a car.
Safer sidewalks throughout town, along with speed-reduction measures such as speed tables and narrowed lanes where they make sense, can make our streets more accessible for everyone. I strongly support the proposed creation of a Complete & Green Streets committee, based on the state model and customized for Morris Plains.
Morris Plains is a close-knit community; to keep our Borough thriving, we must tackle three key challenges together: land-use decisions, rising operational costs, and aging infrastructure with proactive planning.
This work starts with listening to our residents to update our outdated Master Plan, ensuring future development genuinely reflects what residents want while preserving our cherished small-town character.
At the same time, we face rising costs across services, healthcare, and repairs to our aging infrastructure.
By combining proactive planning with rigorous budget oversight and grant writing, we can stretch our tax dollars further to keep Morris Plains the safe, beautiful, and welcoming community we all love.
My passion for Morris Plains is rooted in a simple belief: effective leadership starts with listening, caring, and delivering results.
During my 11 years as an IT Systems Architect and Project Manager in the utility industry, I was trusted to design mission-critical systems while managing multi-million-dollar finances, assets, and teams. That experience taught me how to successfully navigate complex organizations and execute large-scale projects.
As an award winning small business owner of 17 years and a published author, I also know the dedication, heart, and focus it takes to serve people every day.
Over the years, I’ve put that energy back into our town—founding our first online social community group, overhauling Teen Center communications, modernizing Farmers Market operations, and founding our annual Family Fitness Event, which led to the 2025 NJ Governor's Council Volunteer of the Year Award.
With a proven track record of getting things done, I would be deeply honored to serve our residents on the Morris Plains Borough Council.
Morris Plains should be a destination, not a drive-through town.
Enhancing our downtown begins by addressing resident concerns about what development looks like in Morris Plains through a Master Plan update while addressing pedestrian safety and overall vitality.
To build a safer, more welcoming center of town, I will advocate for a comprehensive traffic study to identify areas of improvement for calming traffic and improving walkability.
In addition, we must frequently engage our business community through our support groups like Downtown Morris Plains to obtain feedback for improvements while also conducting periodic reviews of our local land-use code and municipal ordinances to determine if there are any unnecessary barriers for small business owners.
Finally, by proactively seeking grants and public-private partnerships; we can create vibrant, community-centered gathering spaces within our commercial zones that residents and visitors can enjoy.
Federal immigration policies create ripple effects that every community must navigate, particularly around municipal services and local finances.
Addressing these impacts effectively requires a local strategy. We need to ensure our resources, emergency services, and infrastructure are managed efficiently to serve all residents without straining local taxpayers. Second we must maintain careful budget oversight and work closely with county and state agencies to access available support services. Finally, we must focus on municipal jurisdiction—keeping public safety strong, maintaining open communication, and upholding our commitment to a tight-knit community.
We all care deeply about keeping our community safe, beautiful, and vibrant.
I am proud to be endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters for proposing smart, practical solutions to moving our Borough forward towards sustainability.
Our Borough can further benefit from implementing Complete and Green Streets best practices for our roadways that incorporate safety and sustainability. Municipal vehicles can be transitioned to hybrid or electric models when appropriate to reduce emissions and it makes financial sense for taxpayers.
To ensure proactive flood control, we must protect mature trees, replace lost canopies, and mandate rain gardens and permeable paving on commercial builds to better manage stormwater runoff.
Finally, because heavy industrial data centers strain water and power grids while also creating noise and air pollution, I will actively oppose them as a permitted use in our town.
By prioritizing smart, practical solutions we can protect our quality of life without sacrificing the infrastructure our residents rely on daily.
