About the Tulsa City CouncilOn February 14, 1989, Tulsa voters approved the most sweeping changes in city government since the original 1908 charter. A new council-mayor form of government was chosen to replace the outdated city commission.The mayor acts as chief administrator, prepares the initial draft of the operating budget for City Council review, and is in charge of all administrative departments, including, but not limited to: Police, Fire, Finance, Human Resources, Airport, Working in Neighborhoods, Planning and Development and the City Attorney s Office.The city auditor regularly reviews the city s financial activities for efficiency, effectiveness and legality. Findings of any investigations are reported to the mayor and the City Council.The Tulsa City Council functions as the legislative branch of city government, is the governing body of the City of Tulsa and essentially acts as the Board of Directors for the City of Tulsa. The City Council passes all local laws, reviews and approves the city s annual budget, monitors the efficiency and effectiveness of city operations and conducts investigations. Councilors also listen to concerns and suggestions from the residents of their districts.In November 2009, Tulsan s voted to change the City Charter to end staggered terms for city councilors. Since 2014, all city councilors elected serve two-year terms.

My background in consumer finance has taught me no matter what walk of life you come from, everyone is looking for financial stability, peace of mind and most importantly a means to an end in a dire situation. While providing support, guidance and advisement , I notice lost people do not have an earning problem, they have a spending problem. The same could be said for the Tulsa city council : three years in a row the budget has ballooned to well over a billion dollars more increases looming in the future. We’ve seen the council raise utilities, spend money on pet projects like its water and exhibit a tepid response at best whenever the mayor pushes for increased taxes. The government spends our money likes it’s theirs not the free citizens who have every right to ensure their tax dollars are actually being used responsibly , not into an indefinite black hole where nothing can escape except lies and empty promises . I want to put the money in the taxpayer’s hands , not the tax man’s
For starters , I would change the city council meeting times immediately, the fact that everyone who is a wage earner or works a full time job misses the city council meeting 99/100 times , I myself do not get off work most nights until 6pm and by the time I would be able to drive to the meeting it will be long over by the time I get there. How can we expect employers to come to a city where their workers are discouraged from engaging the civic process. It makes no sense either to have the city council to have their development committees and subcommittees
It should be directly up to the citizens , specifically in which area the project is being undertaken in. Many infrastructure projects are often seen over by many entities that often overlook the toll a construction project plays in not only traffic or social gathering delays but the impact it has on people’s local environment. Most recently during the highway expansion, I heard many west side residents complained about noise , damage to property caused by the environmental impact of the construction dust or byproducts of normal construction waste from use of materials. Either way it greatly impacted the residents there and if they had a choice I certain they would have set different parameters. One lady exclaimed her HVAC unit had sucked in the dust causing massive repairs and no way to be compensated
There is only one priority. We must stop the ridiculous spending , we must curtail the budget and put the purse strings back in the people’s hands. I know homelessness and public safety are huge , people are always weary about crime in their neighborhood , Tulsans are always worried about their road and city infrastructure i.e. bridges, overpasses and parks. The only way to solve any of these problems is to limit our spending. We as a city have approved a billion dollar budget for three years in a row and we still cannot keep our roads from falling apart , our crime from soaring and the homelessness epidemic that has killed business and prosperity in the area. To top it all off there are fifty one boards , commissions and panels all associated with the city of Tulsa many through partner Tulsa where taxpayer dollars are used in the manner of a slush found to use as the council sees fit . I would put together an advisory board of regular average citizens with no ties to government ever
The top priority in my district is mostly the same across the city . We are not getting the resources and tax dollars distributed to the right causes and what form of pittance city leadership chooses to gives us is at best a token gesture in the face of a problem they caused. Homelessness according to city accounts has remained even for the first time in years they say but this does not past the eye test . Follow any social media and you’ll see dozens of examples of people doing things they shouldn’t be doing the city stepping in and attempting to play the hero only to push the problem along to another day . I’ve been in consumer lending for 15 years and I know you cannot borrow your way to the top . You borrow to get yourself out of a bind and create a new plan make yourself financially solvent and in no need assistance. Emergencies happen and you must do what you have to but why does the government create emergencies that are permanent? Why does it continue to exist if it was solved?
