State representatives create and amend state laws, pass an annual state budget, and redraw district lines every 10 years.

I've spent my career working to protect the right to vote. I support secure elections with paper ballot records and routine audits, well-funded county election offices, and informed, helpful poll watchers. It is important to make sure every eligible voter can get to the polls, with enough early voting sites in rural and underserved counties, a simpler absentee process for those who qualify, and clear information about deadlines.
The Clyburn Center for Primary Care came to fruition in Aiken because our community needed affordable care close to home and that need is still urgent. Too many working South Carolinians fall into a coverage gap, and rural hospitals and clinics are struggling. I support a fiscally responsible South Carolina plan that uses available federal dollars to cover working families. I will continue to fight to strengthen community health centers as well as grow our rural health workforce and telehealth resources.
Service to a community means protecting the families who live there. Data centers can bring investment and jobs, but they need clear guardrails at both the state and local level. The full cost of the power that data centers need should be covered so those costs aren't passed on to residential ratepayers. There should be statewide standards for water use and incentives tied to real job commitments. Counties and towns should keep authority over siting and zoning, and no major project should move forward without public hearings and meaningful input from residents, neighborhood leaders, local businesses, and other community stakeholders. Growth should reflect the needs of the people who live here.
