In 2012, Beth was elected to represent SC House District 78 and is now serving in her 7th consecutive term. Currently, she serves on the House Judiciary Committee, as the only female and Democratic Subcommittee Chair. She has been elected by the legislative body for 6 terms to serve on House Ethics Committee, serving as its Secretary, and has been appointed to serve on the Joint Citizens Legislative Committee on Children for 5 terms. She previously served as Chair of the Women's Caucus.

As an attorney, I know secure and accessible elections go hand in hand. I support measures to increase voter participation and registration so working families, students, and seniors can cast a ballot without unnecessary hurdles. I also support strong chain-of-custody protocols, post-election audits, and a verifiable paper trail so every South Carolinian can trust the results. I oppose using "security" as a pretext to restrict access, and I support fully funding and training for our county election officials so every precinct runs smoothly and every vote is counted accurately.
Too many South Carolinians go without healthcare because of cost. I support closing the Medicaid coverage gap so more working families can see a doctor before a treatable problem becomes an emergency room visit. I back expanding telehealth, community health centers, and maternal health services, especially in rural parts of the state where hospitals have closed or are struggling. I also support protecting patients from surprise medical bills and predatory hospital debt collection, and making prescription drug costs more transparent so families can budget for the care they need.
Data centers can bring jobs and investment, but they shouldn't be built on the backs of everyday ratepayers. I support requiring data centers to pay their fair share of the electric and water infrastructure they use, rather than shifting those costs onto residential customers. I favor transparency around water and energy consumption, stronger grid capacity planning before new facilities are approved, and accountability for the tax incentives we offer, including clawbacks if promised jobs and investment don't materialize. Growth is good, but it has to work for South Carolina families too.

I support strong checks and balances for voting systems. Voting equipment should meet state and federal certifications standards, and independent testing and verification should be part of the process. No single entity - the manufacturer, government, or another organization should be solely responsible for determining that a voting system is secure and accurate.
I support the Affordable Care Act for South Carolinians who are able to access and afford coverage, but I also believe we must address the gaps that leave many low-income residents struggle to afford basic care.
I support preventive-care programs that provide basic health screenings and exploring a statewide low-income primary-care program, with costs subsidized based on income.
I also support strengthening health-care price transparency so patients know the expected cost of treatment before receiving care whenever possible.
I support requiring new and existing data centers to pay their fair share of electricity and water costs without shifting those costs to residents. I support public reporting of their water and electricity usage and assessments before new data centers are approved to determine their impact on water resources, surrounding communities and agricultural operations. Once operational their water usage and environmental impact should continue to be monitored.
