I am running for HSE School District to give back.

All three of my children attended HSE Schools from kindergarten through graduation, giving me a long-term perspective as a parent and community member. My wife, Charron, served as PTO President at multiple HSE schools and as Royals Varsity Club President. Through her involvement and my own participation, I have supported many school activities, including carnivals, the Durbin Classic 5K/10K, teacher appreciation, Senior Signing Day, and concessions. I have built relationships with hundreds of teachers, staff, coaches, and administrators. For nine years, I have mentored HSE students through Fishers Youth Initiative and, for the past two years, coached HSE girls JV lacrosse. I also work with HSE's work-based learning program, providing students exposure to careers in dentistry. My experience extends well beyond being a parent. I have been a volunteer, mentor, coach, community member, and business professional.
For the past 28 years, I have been a dentist and business owner of two dental practices, where I have managed staff, served patients, navigated government regulations, and adapted to changing economic conditions. This experience has taught me how to listen, evaluate different perspectives, make thoughtful decisions, manage resources, and work through challenges.
My involvement with HSE Schools as a parent, volunteer, mentor, coach, and community member has given me firsthand insight into our schools and the people they serve. I have developed relationships with teachers, staff, coaches, administrators, students, and families and have seen both the opportunities and challenges our district faces.
I believe this combination of business leadership and direct experience with HSE Schools would allow me to bring a practical, informed, collaborative, and student-focused perspective to the school board.
My priority would be to keep HSE Schools financially strong while putting students and the classroom first. As a business owner, I understand the importance of balancing current needs with long-term financial sustainability. I would carefully evaluate how taxpayer dollars are spent, look for opportunities to improve efficiency, and ensure resources are aligned with the district’s priorities.
I am entering this race without a predetermined agenda. I don't believe a school board member's job is to come in with an agenda to spend or cut. The board's responsibility is to understand the facts, listen, evaluate what is working, and make informed decisions based on the district's needs. I would prioritize funding that supports student learning, teachers and staff, safety, and opportunities that prepare students for life after graduation. My goal is to be a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars while ensuring students and educators have the resources they need to succeed.
I believe the superintendent and school board are on the same team, working toward the same goal: providing the best possible education and opportunities for our students. The board’s role is to establish direction, set expectations, monitor progress, and hold the superintendent accountable, while allowing the superintendent to manage the day-to-day operations of the district.
I would support an objective evaluation process based on measurable goals, student outcomes, financial stewardship, and progress on the district’s strategic priorities. Accountability should go both ways, and board members should also hold ourselves accountable for being informed, prepared, respectful, and supportive.
I believe the best results come from a strong relationship built on trust, respect, communication, and a willingness to have difficult conversations when needed. We may not always agree, but we should always be able to work together professionally and keep students at the center of every decision.
I believe transparency starts with making information easy for the community to find, understand, and participate in. I would support providing clear and timely information about board agendas, proposed decisions, budgets, and supporting materials so community members can be informed before meetings and decisions are made.
I would also encourage making board meetings as accessible as possible, with clear explanations of decisions and opportunities for meaningful public input. Most importantly, I believe board members should be approachable and willing to listen to students, parents, teachers, staff, and community members.
Not everyone will agree with every decision, but everyone should understand how and why decisions were made. As a board, we should communicate openly, respectfully, and consistently, while remembering that we are all part of the same community and ultimately working toward the same goal: doing what is best for our students.
