VOTE411 Voter Guide

State Representative District 31

Together, the House of Representatives and the Senate constitute the Connecticut General Assembly (CGA). The General Assembly enacts legislation dealing with state appropriations and finance, public welfare, the environment, public works, housing, education, civil and criminal laws, and other matters. The Senate tries all impeachments of executive and judicial branch officials. In Connecticut, members of the state’s legislative body, the General Assembly, must be at least eighteen years old and reside in the district they represent. Senate and House members serve two-year terms. Candidates were asked to respond to questions developed by local Leagues of Women Voters (LWV). Candidates enter their replies directly into Vote411, and replies are not edited by the LWV.This is the link to the CGA website: https://www.cga.ct.gov/This is the link to Sample Ballots for each Town found on the Secretary of State website: https://portal.ct.gov/sots/election-services/town-ballots

I believe that I am the best candidate for the position because I have done the work and I am willing to do the work of being a state representative everyday. I believe that State Reps ought to be approachable and available to their constituents. Most importantly they need to listen and respond to the needs of their constituents.
I believe that the state should try and guarantee health insurance to all of its citizens. This is a long fight and the economic conditions are going to be difficult to create this, but in the interim we must make up the difference. The disastrous Trump administration's policies on removing healthcare subsidies have immiserated the lives of American's young and old. As a lawmaker here in CT I plan on voting to fill the hole on healthcare.
I believe that the state should have a larger interest in fully funding education. This would allow the potential easing of property taxes on local residents in some areas, and raising the education funding in other areas. I would support legislation that raised the state funding to towns, and allow that funding to reduce the tax burden on the towns.
I believe that Flock cameras are not fully vetted and leave a lot of privacy concerns in our state. At a minimum I would want to see a 5 year moratorium on any new Flock camera systems for us to be able to fully understand the risks. At the moment I am also in favor of removing the cameras currently in use as there are already many documented instances on their perils.
My number one priority for my town is being a State Representative that everyone can be happy to know that I am working hard for them. Also, that my values align with theirs and that they do not have to worry that I might be doing things that do not align with their interests.

I look to work on lowering the tax burdens on individuals and small businesses and raise them on large corporations. This will allow the state to continue providing the much needed services that its citizen's rely on.
