I'm a social worker and an organizer with more than a decade of experience in healthcare and social services; I understand viscerally where our current system falls short, where many of us fall through the cracks, and how many of us are excluded from the conversation. My work has made me deeply familiar with the complicated topography of Vermont's healthcare across the entire continuum of care, and I use my knowledge on a daily basis to help Vermonter's navigate the complex web of services. Through my organizing of unions or advocacy groups I've learned that it's imperative no one is left out conversations that affect them: I know the importance of creating an environment where no community member is left out or left behind.
Practical measures must be taken to control education costs, but the major component I'm focused on is shifting the financial burden of employee healthcare off of school districts by creating a single-payer healthcare system. That won't be easy and will require multiple funding streams: in the meantime, local communities should be able to make their own decisions on consolidating districts, services, or resources while continuing to manage their own budgets. It's critical that we increase access to trained paraprofessionals and IEP resources so that all students have the support they need through a shared service system.
Act 250 is a monumental document that is due for updating: communities should have autonomy to develop as appropriate. Local communities have the best sense of what their needs are and should be given tools to undertake projects in a way that respects our natural environment, and viable alternatives should be discussed for projects that would pollute our waterways or negatively impact the landscape. Where there are regulations, the tools must be provided to abide by that regulation.

We need also to entirely ban AI data centers in the state at least until less environmentally-destructive technology is developed. We should continue to ban billboards.
