I have been involved in legal and legislative efforts to return Vermont to the Trustworthy and Secure Election Process we had before the "temporary" COVID changes that were instituted under the Governor's emergency powers that were subsequently made permanent under Act 60 of 2021. These changes include: Universal-Vote-by-Mail, expanded voting beyond the single Election Day called for in Vermont's Constitution, liberalized vote harvesting and other changes that have reduced the confidence in our election process. If elected - I will make sure that our Elections return to the secure elections, under local control, that Vermonters enjoyed before 2020.

I will bring my 50 year business experience and my Election experience to the position.
Before 2020, Vermont's Elections were considered the most secure and trustworthy in the country. Not because of extensive regulations or complicated processes, rather because, under Vermont's Constitution, our Elections were conducted directly by each town/city Board of Civil Authority, control was usurped by the Secretary of State taking control of ballot distribution, eliminating the oversight of the local officials. Universally distributed vote-by-mail ballots which are returned without the ability of the local officials to verify that the marked ballots reflect the choices of the voter without a Voter ID number and/or signature verification. On request Absentee Voting provided access for voters unable to vote in-person on Election Day.
In recent years, the Secretary of State has convinced the Legislature to enact cornucopia of new regulations and implemented on-line processes which, while easier for the SoS office to administer have allowed many filings to be unfiled or lost. While electronic filing may be faster and more convenient - the elimination of printed mailed documents creates shortfalls and missed verification. The SoS must provide an opportunity for access to "live" assistance when needed.

The Office of Professional Regulation has become an unwieldy organization overseeing many professions better assigned to departments with greater professional expertise including: the Department of Health, Department of Human Services and Justice Department.
