I have served as High Bailiff since 2021, including briefly serving as Acting Sheriff when the previous sheriff was incarcerated. Unlike deputies in the department, I am not beholden to the sheriff personally or financially.
When I served as Acting Sheriff in 2022, I was in constant contact with the head deputy, the Executive Director of the Department of State's Attorneys & Sheriffs, and senior sheriffs in other counties to ensure Addison County's needs would be met, while issuing the first of many calls by elected officials for Sheriff Newton's resignation.
Sheriff Elmore and I have long maintained a professional, mutually respectful relationship; unlike deputies in the department who are personally and financially beholden to the sheriff, I am fully independent of the sheriff and able to carry out the limited duties of the High Bailiff office without any conflicts of interest.
