I think the three biggest challenges facing voters are rising costs on everything like groceries
and gasoline, healthcare costs that are out of control, and a national debt that will haunt us for
generations. Beyond that, I think the lack of civility in our politics and media is pushing voters
further away from productive conversations and advancing sensible policy.
We need an economy that works for Tennesseans, not for the politicians and special interests. I
am sick and tired of people going to Washington to get rich. We need to make insider trading
illegal for members of Congress and their families. We must make the ultra-wealthy and
corporations pay their fair share of taxes so that we can cut costs for people in District 7. We
need a return of checks and balances.
People across Middle Tennessee are struggling. Everything is more expensive these days. I
think Congress should take back its constitutional authority away from this president and stop
many of the tariffs that President Donald Trump has put in place, and put an end to these
senseless wars that cost the taxpayers and our kids trillions. American consumers are having to
pay for these tariffs in the form of increased prices on common household goods. Next, we have
to address the costs of healthcare. I am in favor of extending healthcare subsidies to help
Americans pay for their insurance premiums. I also want to see more done to cap the costs of
certain drugs. I will also work with our state legislature to expand Medicare.
Congress should protect and improve the Department of Education. A quality public school
education should be available to all students in this country, no matter their zip code. Cutting the
Department of Education is not the solution. I will fight against any cuts to the Department of
Education once elected to Congress.
I also believe Congress should address the shortage of teachers that are needed in this country.
One of the things that we could do is to expand loan forgiveness programs for men and women
who choose teaching as a profession.
I do not believe Congress should regulate data centers; they should, however, regulate AI.
The roll of Congress should be to conduct studies and call data center developers and experts in to testify – under oath – on the impacts of data centers. Congress should convene experts in power generation, water usage, audiology, economists, property valuation, among others, to testify on the impacts of data centers and develop best practices. But the regulation of data centers should be left up to individual states and local planning agencies and local elected officials. Congress, however, should regulate AI and the use of our data. This is really the heart of the data center debate.
