I have served on the BH-BL Board of Education since May of 2020. In this time I have learned a great deal about the opportunities and challenges that face public education. I am a small business owner, and have a background in finance, which I think is critical in understanding the fiscal pressures and responsibilities of a school district.
I truly understand the commitment required as I have been a board member for 6 years. My commitment is fueled by having students of my own, as well as a passionate belief that public education is the foundation that creates citizens who are critical thinkers, and productive members of society. Serving on the board allows me to give back to my community in a substantial and impactful way.
My greatest concern is the impact of new technologies in education and on our children. I think we need to reassess the impact of current technology, and prepare our students for the use of new technology while still making sure that they are developing critical skills without relying on those technologies.

A public school district is the clearest expression of a community's collective values and priorities and reflects the community's health and civic engagement. School districts with engaged residents, stable local leadership, and active civic participation tend to build stronger educational institutions, while thriving schools in turn reinforce community stability by attracting families, supporting property values, and creating a sense of continuity across generations. The willingness to invest in education reflects whether a community sees itself as interconnected and forward-looking. For this model to be successful, a Board needs to represent all stakeholders while acting in the best interest of our students.
