I think our current system of politicians telling teachers what theyre gonna get and having teachers scramble to make it work is clearly a losing system. I will set a data base of teachers lesson planning and resources that is accessible by educators only. This one source streamlines two problems: 1 time. Time teachers take to create unique lesson plans will be cut dramatically as other teachers upload proven successful lesson plans into the data base for use by other educators. 2. It will put the needs of educators into their own hands. Instead of politicians telling teachers what theyre gonna get, its teachers tell Lansing what they need.
The progressive plan has been made clear. The tax system is unfair. It needs to be rewritten to make sure that all of its participants are pulling their weight. That means luxury taxes on things like vacation homes and properties used as tax shelters. That means blocking private equity from making cash offers to price out local home buyers. That means community managed lease to own paths to homeownership. When we force our communities to be rental communities we take the ownership and pride for that community with it. People need to feel invested in their own lives again, and that means leveling the playing field for all of us
As Anishinaabekwe (Ojibwe woman) I believe, and was raised in, the responsibility of the 7 generations. I am the 7th generation and as such every policy decision I make regarding hydroelectric, solar, wind, or small nuclear reactor power sources will be met with this challenge first and foremost: "would the last three generations who cared for these lands be proud of this decision?" and "how will this decision effect the next 3 generations that come after me?". I know we can balance affordability and innovation with the necessity to keep the Upper Peninsula as wild and free as it has always been. Research has already begun toward that end.
Let me start this with a bold statement: ABOLISH ICE. In my current capacity as a lighthouse keeper located directly on the Canadian border, I work closely with the US Border Patrol. I highly respect these men and women for the care and professionalism that they hold while performing their duties. I see no need for the untrained, violent thugs in ICE to have a larger budget than the Marines do, especially when we already have a well trained, highly capable, LAW abiding, force that does this job on a daily basis and could really use more support. They follow US immigration law to the letter and treat immigrants with due process and dignity.
