I went to Utica schools, and the teachers there shaped who I am. Every kid in Michigan deserves that. We can't keep good teachers when Michigan ranks 44th in the country for starting pay, so I support a teacher pay floor, smaller class sizes, universal pre-K, and free school meals, because a hungry kid can't learn. I'd pull back the high-stakes testing that turns classrooms into test-prep factories. Our kids are the smartest investment this state can make, and I'll hold Lansing to it.
Cost of living is the whole ballgame in HD 58, and it comes down to 2 things: raise what people earn and lower what they pay. I support a living wage, the right to organize, and going after wage theft. On costs, DTE and Consumers keep raising rates while executive pay climbs, so I'll push for a rate freeze, lower prescription prices, and housing that families in Sterling Heights and Utica can actually afford. Hard work should mean stability again.
These 3 go together for me. We sit with some of the worst grids in the country while DTE and Consumers post profits, and they even tried to bill customers for executive private-jet travel. I'll hold them and the MPSC accountable, start with a rate freeze, and give families automatic credits when the power's out for days. Then push for clean electricity, defend our Great Lakes, and make polluters pay for PFAS. Clean, reliable, and affordable power is the standard.
Crime is crime, and I want order as much as anyone. Masked agents in unmarked cars grabbing people off the street isn't order; it's chaos, and when neighbors are afraid to call 911, we're all less safe. Due process, free speech, and protection from unreasonable search apply to every person in Michigan. I support keeping federal agents out of schools, hospitals, and churches, making sure the agents operating here show their faces, and limits on pulling our local police off our streets to do federal work. Our resources should stay in our communities.
