Michigan's education system deserves stability and support from the state, both for students and for educators. Michigan benefits from wonderful teachers performing education across the state. I would advocate for consistent and fair funding for public schools in order to invest in our children, as well as better staffing so our teachers can provide quality education and have the classroom capability to do so. I would also continue to support reform to the standardized testing system.
I have always been a strong advocate for workers, both as a legislator and in my career as an attorney specializing in workers' comp, disability, and social security. I was incredibly proud to be Labor Chair when the so-called "Right-to-Work" legislation was repealed in Michigan, and if I am re-elected I will continue to champion legislation that benefits working families across the state. I will support accessible and affordable childcare, healthcare, and housing initiatives and go after corporations and entities exploiting workers or needlessly jacking up costs.
When I served in the State House previously, I proudly voted to put Michigan on track towards renewable energy, and I would continue supporting similar policies to protect our environment, especially the Great Lakes, as well as bring down energy costs and put more money back in every Michigander's wallet. I would also support legislation ensuring energy companies are held accountable for unreliable service, exorbitant rate increases without a commensurate service increase, and to prevent shutoffs during winter's coldest and summer's hottest months.
I believe all Michigan residents, regardless of immigration status, deserve and are entitled to equal protection under the law. Fair treatment and due process are non-negotiable, and our Constitution applies to all people in the United States. These truths must be protected, and both as an American and a hopeful future elected state legislator, I am committed to defending them and ensuring their application for all.
