Michigan’s K–12 system ranks in the middle-to-lower tier nationally, and our teacher pay and support often reflect that reality. We cannot expect top outcomes while underinvesting in the professionals leading our classrooms. As the parent of a child with disabilities, I know how critical strong public schools and support services are for families. I support better teacher pay, stronger retention incentives, less bureaucracy, and equitable funding—especially for special education, rural districts, and high-needs schools. Standardized testing should be a diagnostic tool, not the sole measure of success.
Michigan families are being squeezed by rising costs of housing, childcare, healthcare, utilities, and groceries, while wages have not kept pace. I support policies that strengthen collective bargaining, grow good-paying union jobs, expand affordable childcare, increase housing supply, and invest in workforce training tied to real employer needs. We also need to reduce the influence of corporate money and political corruption that too often put special interests ahead of working families. Together, we can rebuild an economy where hard work is rewarded and restore the American Dream for working families and our children.
Michigan needs an energy strategy built on reliability, affordability, accountability, and stewardship of our natural lands and resources. I support modernizing the grid, expanding practical clean energy, and evaluating the restart and expansion of nuclear power. We must stop wasting ratepayer dollars on inefficient infrastructure and hold utilities accountable for rising costs. Tax breaks for massive energy users like data centers should face strict scrutiny, and revenue from major industrial energy consumers should help fund conservation and protection of Michigan’s natural resources.
As a retired military officer, I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution, and I take that seriously. Due process, free speech, and protections against unlawful search and seizure must be respected for everyone under our laws. Immigration enforcement is primarily a federal responsibility, but actions in Michigan must be constitutional, transparent, and focused on public safety. Federal agents conducting enforcement should be clearly identifiable, and local authorities should receive appropriate notification of major enforcement actions to protect public safety, accountability, and public trust.

Matt Hall is a constitutional attorney who served our community in the Attorney General's office before joining the state legislature and being chosen by his peers to serve as Speaker of the House.
Students deserve better results, and parents need peace of mind that help is on the way. That’s why I secured record-high funding for classrooms and passed the Hall Universal Breakfast in Schools (HUBS) plan, guaranteeing every child free meals.
In July, I delivered hundreds of millions for early childhood education programs and another $50 million in tutoring to help students catch up.
More money requires greater accountability and safer schools. I voted to restore the popular third-grade reading law and fully reversed 2023 cuts by restoring nearly $300 million in school safety and mental health investments.
Kalamazoo and Allegan families need lower costs, affordable housing, and a state government that respects their paycheck.
I have led an agenda focused on the biggest costs families face: health care, property taxes, housing, utility bills, and everyday expenses. That means cutting property taxes, rolling back utility rates, increasing health care price transparency, helping patients navigate medical bills, and banning large corporations from buying up single-family homes.
My priority is simple: protect taxpayers, lower costs, and make Michigan more affordable.
Michigan needs an energy policy that protects families first. Reliability and affordability must come before political timelines or utility profits.
I support forcing utility companies to roll back rates by $1 billion and freeze them, giving families real relief on their monthly bills - to the tune of hundreds of dollars per year - while holding utilities accountable.
I believe Michigan can protect our air, water, and natural resources while still keeping the lights on, lowering costs, restoring local control over major energy decisions, and making sure energy policy works for taxpayers, not special interests.
I support ending sanctuary city policies that stop police from doing their job and make our cities a safe haven for criminal activity. I have also passed critical reforms into law that require people to verify their identity and citizenship in order to access government assistance that is meant for families in our community. And I brokered a deal with Republicans and Democrats to stop illegal aliens from drawing down welfare and save critical services like Medicaid for the people who need it most.
