Schools are strained after decades of disinvestment and rising student needs. I support increased funding for K-12 public schools for smaller class sizes, safer buildings, mental-health supports, strong academic and career-tech programs. I will invest in public colleges and universities to reduce tuition, expand financial aid, and move toward debt-free public higher ed. I will strengthen pathways from high school to good-paying jobs by empowering union apprenticeship programs, skilled-trades training, and partnerships with community colleges. I will refuse to vote for any voucher schemes, or funding cuts to K-12 or higher-education budgets.
I support policies that meet the needs of working people. I will champion policies like living wages, tenant rights, union protections, strong limits on rising utility rates and corporate profiteering, affordable housing, RX Kids, Tri-share, and I will fight to advance universal single payer healthcare. I have proven that I create solutions for working people as Chair of county government; creating 1,800 units of new and affordable housing, erasing $3.2M in local medical debt, and opening the Landing Place for unsheltered families. I have fought the causes of the affordability crisis here in Kalamazoo, and will continue this fight in Lansing.
We need to put a moratorium on data centers, hold utility companies accountable for outages and rate hikes, invest in grid upgrades, expand clean energy, and ban utility companies' political contributions. I will work to pass Polluter Pay Laws, expand PFAS cleanup funding, defend the Clean Energy and Jobs Act, and invest in modern water infrastructure, septic replacement, and lead service line removal. I support protecting 30% of Michigan’s land and water by 2030, expanding funding for parks, trails and access to nature, and will oppose any effort to weaken protections for public lands. I will never vote against Michigan’s natural resources.
Everyone in the U.S., including non-citizens, is guaranteed due process and free speech, and is protected from unreasonable search and seizure. Individuals must have access to seek legal representation in civil immigration court. Local law enforcement resources must focus on their primary responsibilities and should not be involved in federal civil immigration enforcement. I would support a ban on 287(g) agreements, higher privacy protections in Michigan, limitations on immunity from state law for federal officers that enter homes without a judicial warrant, a ban on stops, detentions, and arrests based solely on personal characteristics.

Ranking 44th in K-12 nationally proves Michigan's education system is fundamentally broken. Instead of prioritizing big tech subsidies like classroom computers and connectivity or administrative bloat, we must restructure around core academic disciplines: math, English, science, history, and critical thinking. Taxpayers deserve a real return on investment (ROI), teachers need a system focused on actual learning, and students deserve an education that teaches them how to reason—and to not only be skeptical of government, but to hold it accountable.
Talking about a "living wage" misses the root problem: our currency is fundamentally broken by government. When money constantly devalues, raising wages only chases inflation. True purchasing power comes from sound money and holding assets like stocks, gold, or Bitcoin making everyday life cheaper over time including housing. Policy shouldn't manipulate wages or hand massive corporate welfare subsidies to profitable multinational mega-corporations. Instead of betting taxpayer funds on corporate giants, Michigan should take a million small bets on 10,000 homegrown, local startups that create real wealth and high-value jobs for our residents.
Monopoly utilities like Consumers Energy and DTE use state government to strip choice from consumers and funnel taxpayer subsidies back into controlled corporate structures. We must restore true market competition. Solar should be decentralized and community-driven, not corporate-controlled. Nuclear energy must be our long-term baseline focus for cheap, reliable baseload power. Hydrocarbons remain essential to fuelling a 21st-century economy. Your standard of living directly depends on abundant energy. To protect affordability and reliability, Michigan needs an "all-of-the-above" approach that prioritizes cheap, plentiful energy generation.
Constitutional limits bind government to respect due process, free speech, and Fourth Amendment protections for all residents, regardless of citizenship status:

* Bipartisan Overreach: Past Democratic and Republican administrations expanded administrative warrants, warrantless dragnets, and raid that undermine judicial oversight.

* Judicial Warrants: Michigan police must require standard warrants signed by neutral judges based on probable cause, not administrative warrants.

* Reject Federal Dragnets: Local police must protect First Amendment rights and focus on local violent crime, not enforcing federal civil detentions.
