Parents, not bureaucracies, are responsible for the proper care, guidance, and education of their children. MI ranks 44th in the nation in the key metric of 4th Grade reading while spending $21,000 per student, per year of taxpayer money. The Social Gospel of the Left has taken over the classroom, setting aside basic skills and are teaching our kids what to think instead of how to think! This undermines the family unit, parental authority and sends children into the world unprepared, eroding the competitiveness of our state. We must remove government edicts from the classroom, restoring authority with parents and at the local level.
Michigan is getting too expensive! Cut the waste, reducing the spending in Lansing to pre-covid levels budgets which have ballooned by 40%. Stop pet-project spending and slash state regulations that drive up residents daily costs. Simultaneous to reducing expenses to constitutional limits, eliminate state income and property taxes so families can actually afford to stay here. We do not have an income problem, we have a spending problem and until we are willing to face that head on, no amount of income will overcome the affordability issue for the residents of Michigan.
Roll back utility rates (have increased 23% the last 4 years). Data Centers must not be granted massive tax breaks which leaves local residents and small business to subsidize them through higher taxes. Zoning, housing, schools, revenue sharing, and more, are increasingly controlled by distant bureaucracies in Lansing. This disconnect removes accountability and silences local voters. Issues for local residents should be solved at the local level where residents are heard, and elected officials are accountable. Each community is unique and should not be subject to unaccountable bureaucratic overreach from Lansing.
U.S. and MI Constitutions are clear: fundamental rights like due process, freedom of speech, and protection against unreasonable searches belong to everyone under the law. I will uphold the strict letter of the Constitution. However, the rule of law must cut both ways. True accountability means we cannot allow activist bureaucracies or sanctuary policies to shield individuals who violate federal immigration laws. I support local law enforcement having the power and autonomy to cooperate with federal authorities to keep our communities secure, ensuring our legal system remains fair, transparent, and focused on protecting law-abiding citizens.
