Michigan's education system needs stronger funding, greater support for teachers, and a renewed focus on student achievement. I support exploring weighted funding to ensure schools with greater needs receive additional resources. I also support reducing standardized testing and focusing on literacy first. If a child cannot read proficiently, they will struggle in every subject. As students advance, assessments can expand to include math, writing, and science. Finally, teachers deserve better pay and support. They are often educators, mentors, counselors, and role models all at once, and investing in them is essential to improving outcomes.
Earning a living wage is important, but we must also address the rising cost of living that is making it difficult for many Michigan families to get ahead. I support policies that expand access to affordable housing, childcare, healthcare, and reliable transportation. I also believe we should invest in workforce development and job training programs that connect people to good-paying careers. Affordability is not just about how much people earn—it's also about how much they spend. By reducing the costs of essential needs while creating pathways to economic opportunity, we can help more Michigan residents achieve financial stability.
Michigan's energy policy should balance reliability, affordability, and environmental responsibility. I support an all-of-the-above approach that protects consumers from excessive rate increases, invests in modern infrastructure, and encourages cleaner energy sources while ensuring families and businesses have access to reliable and affordable power.
I believe every person, regardless of citizenship status, is entitled to due process and the constitutional protections afforded under the law. Our legal system should be fair, consistent, and respectful of individual rights. I also support making the pathway to citizenship more affordable, accessible, and efficient for those seeking to become contributing members of our communities and economy.
