Michigan's public schools are filled with talented students and dedicated educators, but funding has not kept pace with need. I support increasing the foundation allowance to at least $12,932 per pupil to keep up with inflation and ensure every student has access to a quality education. I also support appropriating $100 million for school facility grants. Michigan is one of only 14 states that provides no state funding for PK-12 infrastructure, forcing districts to rely on local property taxes and creating inequities in school facilities and learning environments.
Michigan's economy should work for working families, not just the wealthy and well-connected. I support closing corporate tax loopholes, ending special-interest giveaways, and ensuring large corporations and the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share. We should explore tax policies that reduce extreme concentrations of wealth, including reforms to inheritance taxation, while investing in affordable housing, public education, workforce development, and infrastructure. Our economy grows strongest when prosperity is broadly shared.
Michigan can pursue reliable, affordable energy while protecting public health and the environment. I support investments in grid modernization and infrastructure improvements to reduce outages and improve reliability. Utility companies should be held accountable for service quality and rate increases. We must strengthen protections for our air, water, and neighborhoods by ending special tax breaks for large data centers and requiring polluting corporations to obtain local approval before receiving tax incentives. I also support prohibiting campaign contributions from regulated utilities and state contractors.
I believe every person in Michigan, regardless of immigration status, is entitled to due process and the constitutional protections guaranteed by the First and Fourth Amendments. Government actions should respect freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and protections against unlawful searches and seizures. I support opposing surveillance contracts that share data with ICE, prohibiting masked law enforcement officers, and designating schools, hospitals, and places of worship as protected spaces. We must protect civil liberties, ensure fair treatment under the law, and build trust between communities and public institutions.

Michigan spends more per student than many states, yet far too many of our students are falling behind. We are seeing declining test scores, serious learning loss, chronic absenteeism, and too many students graduating without being fully prepared for college, trades, or the workforce. The biggest loss is not just in rankings, it is the students we are failing along the way. I support refocusing education on strong academics, supporting teachers, expanding skilled trades, and making sure parents have a real voice. Our kids deserve better, and Michigan must do better.
Michigan families are being squeezed by inflation, rising housing costs, energy bills, and everyday expenses while wages struggle to keep up. We need policies that help people actually keep more of what they earn. I support lowering the tax burden on working families and small businesses, reducing unnecessary regulations, expanding skilled trades and workforce training, and bringing good-paying jobs back to Michigan. Affordability starts with strong local economies, responsible government spending, and creating opportunity so people can build stable lives without depending on government.
Michigan needs an energy strategy rooted in reliability, affordability, and common sense. Families should not be forced to choose between keeping the lights on and paying other bills. I support a balanced energy approach that includes traditional and emerging energy sources while protecting our natural resources, especially the Great Lakes. We need stronger grid reliability, better infrastructure, consumer protections, and more transparency from utility companies. Environmental progress should be practical, affordable, and never come at the expense of working families.
I believe constitutional rights matter. Due process and First Amendment protections are fundamental to our justice system, and Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable searches help protect everyone from government overreach. At the same time, we are a nation of laws, and immigration policy must respect both security and liberty. I support secure borders, lawful immigration, and policies that uphold public safety while ensuring constitutional protections and fair treatment under the law for all Michigan residents.
