I am interested in constitutionally protecting School Aid Fund dollars for Pre-K through 12. Every dollar meant for students, teachers, classrooms and administrators should go there without negotiation. I will push to utilize a weighted student funding formula to better support our most vulnerable Michigan students. Students are the foundation of our state’s future and provide us with the ability to attract and retain growing families for our state.
I am a homeowner in Michigan, and I chose to come back to District 5 and buy a home here after I graduated from college. I am fighting to address affordability issues specifically related to housing and property taxes. I plan to support the bills recently put forth to simulate a "freeze" on property taxes for seniors based on age and taxable income thresholds. I will also fight for the expansion of home repair fund requirements to include more middle-income/young homeowners unrestricted by income or age thresholds. I would like to see progress towards incentivizing new construction and reinvestment into existing housing.
My top three environmental concerns are focused around improving aging water infrastructure with nature to help address urban flooding in our communities, water affordability and access and impacts of data centers on Michigan’s natural environment.
I will identify opportunities and promote access to available funding for green stormwater infrastructure and support the bills proposed to support water affordability assistance, capping bills at no more than 3% of their household income. Additionally, I would support electing members of the Michigan Public Service Commission and capping the utility contributions able to be made to campaigns.
Every Michigan resident should be guaranteed full constitutional protection. Immigration statuses should not threaten access to these rights. I will fight to ensure there are clear limits on how long citizens can be detained without formal charges and restrict access to certain areas by immigration enforcement, like courthouses, places of worship, schools, hospitals and workplaces. It is also vital that we codify Miranda rights into the Michigan constitution as federal protections roll back.
