Every child deserves a quality education. I’ve secured historic funding for classrooms, before and after school programming, and student mental health supports, as well as free universal school meals. We’ve prioritized funding for students who need the most support, including low-income and rural districts, English language learners, and special education students. Because cost should never be a barrier to success, I led efforts to guarantee free community college and trade training, and Michigan Reconnect for adult learners. We’re also removing barriers to teacher success by investing in educator bonuses and loan forgiveness programs.
Michiganders should not have to work multiple jobs to live comfortably or get ahead. One of the first actions I took as your Senator was to quintuple the Working Families Tax Credit and repeal the unpopular retirement tax on seniors, helping you keep more of your hard-earned money. I worked hard to protect the social safety net- including Medicaid and SNAP food assistance- from federal cuts. I co-sponsored legislation to reduce pharmacy costs, and led the effort to combat medical debt in our state. I will always stand up for workers rights, including strong wages, union representation, affordable childcare, and robust family leave.
I helped pass the historic Clean Energy & Climate Action Package, making Michigan a national leader in the fight against climate change with a 100% clean energy standard by 2040, bringing good-paying union jobs and federal dollars for clean energy projects. I fought against price gouging on energy and secured state funds for consumer representation during utility rate cases. I secured funding to support BWL’s steam-to-hot water conversion project keeping our system sustainable and low cost. We have a responsibility to protect our Great Lakes and natural resources, from clean water to responsible wildlife management and sustainable farming.
Due process and constitutional rights aren't conditional; they belong to everyone in Michigan. I sponsored a resolution calling on Congress to restore real oversight and accountability for ICE and DHS after unlawful stops and tragic violence. No one, including federal law enforcement, is above the law. I'll continue standing up for 4th Amendment protections against unlawful searches and seizures and 1st Amendment rights for immigrant families, and pushing back against fear-based tactics that tear families apart. Mid-Michigan’s diversity is what makes us strong, and I'll always fight to protect the rights of all the people I represent.

Michigan ranks 44th in the nation in 4th-grade reading. The system is failing. Full school choice with Education Savings Accounts puts power in parents' hands - funding follows the child, so good schools grow and bad ones lose students. We need to get kids off screens and back to hands-on learning and real-world skills.
At the state level I can't control federal inflation or the deficit, but Michigan can deliver real relief where it matters most.
Eliminate property taxes. For seniors on Social Security, this is the difference between keeping their home and losing it. For working families, it's one of the biggest costs crushing affordability.
Stop counties and cities from strangling small businesses with excessive regulations, fees, and red tape. When government gets out of the way, businesses grow, jobs multiply, and wages rise.
Lower costs. Fewer barriers. More opportunity. That's how we help Michiganders earn a real living.
Michigan needs reliable, affordable, and clean energy. Modern nuclear power delivers all three; it provides steady baseload electricity with zero emissions and some of the lowest long-term costs. It's one of the most environmentally friendly energy sources available today.
We also need to end the government-protected monopoly held by Consumers Energy. Competition drives innovation and lower prices, which means allowing small companies to safely feed clean power back into the grid, with proper failsafes to prevent spikes or surges - giving Michiganders real choice and pushing the
The Constitution protects all persons inside the U.S. (not just citizens) from government overreach. Due process, free speech, and protection from unreasonable searches apply to everyone physically on American soil. Noncitizens have no constitutional right to enter or remain here. Immigration enforcement must follow due process but be swift and consistent. We reject any expansion of rights that would make lawful enforcement impossible or turn Michigan into a sanctuary for lawbreakers.
