Poor due to a lack of respect for the profession at large. Michigan teachers' average starting salary is almost 12% below the national average. Adjusting for inflation, salaries have fallen by 16% over the past 10 years. Fewer candidates are entering the profession and classrooms are being staffed by "Grow Your Own" "teachers" in training to fill the gap. Far too often testing and evaluation takes away time from quality instruction. Add to this, the continuous adoption of the "next great thing" that never lasts. More pay, less testing, allowing more creativity in classroom instruction would, in my opinion, result in better outcomes.
Single payer healthcare would free employers from manipulating scheduling to stay under the threshold to be responsible for benefits and thus employees would not have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. Increasing the minimum wage to more greatly reflect productivity would set an hourly wage closer to $25/hour. Create more moderate housing options by working with local zoning authorities, licensing agents, builders, and any other stakeholders to make necessary changes.
I would continue to expand alternative energy through tax incentives. I would promote the adoption of agrivoltaics to conserve farmland and help to finance continued family farming.
The Constitution applies to everyone. Thus, noncitizens have due process rights, and all other rights under the Constitution. Equal protection under the law has no exceptions. I support it all.
