To build a world-class system, we must fully fund public schools using an equity-based model that prioritizes student need over ZIP code. We need to replace punitive testing metrics with holistic evaluations that measure true growth and critical thinking. Tackling the teacher shortage demands raising educator salaries, improving workplace conditions, and expanding robust professional development. Investing in our classrooms, modernizing digital infrastructure, and respecting our workforce will ensure every Michigan child receives the high-quality public education they deserve.
To ensure every Michigander can thrive, I support raising the state minimum wage to a true living wage and indexing it to inflation. We must strengthen collective bargaining rights to empower workers and secure fair benefits. Addressing statewide affordability also means enacting aggressive consumer protections against corporate price-gouging, capping skyrocketing utility rates through strict regulatory oversight, and modernizing infrastructure to lower long-term household costs. By pairing robust worker protections with targeted investments in affordable housing, child care, and regional transit, we can build a resilient, equitable economy.
We must hold corporate utilities accountable by establishing strict state oversight to cap skyrocketing rates and tying executive bonuses directly to grid reliability. I support accelerating Michigan’s transition to clean energy through aggressive solar, wind, and battery storage investments, creating high-paying union jobs. By modernizing our grid, weatherizing homes to lower monthly bills, and protecting our vital water sources, we can achieve environmental justice, guarantee reliable power, and ensure energy remains affordable for every working family.
Constitutional protections are fundamental rights, not privileges. I staunchly support due process, First Amendment freedoms, and Fourth Amendment privacy protections for every Michigan resident, regardless of citizenship status.
To safeguard these rights, I support ending state and local cooperation with federal immigration detainer requests without a judicial warrant, ensuring robust protections against unlawful searches. Furthermore, we must guarantee comprehensive legal representation in all judicial proceedings and firmly protect the right to peaceful protest, ensuring our legal system treats everyone with dignity and fairness.
