Michigan has made great progress in school funding, but too many students, educators, and districts still face unequal resources and staffing shortages. Michigan’s schools have faced years of continued disinvestment and our reading test scores need to be improved. In my work as chair of the PreK-12 subcommittee I’ve supported continued investment in public schools, free breakfast and lunch, stronger teacher recruitment and retention, competitive pay, and expanded student mental health and career/technical education. I look forward to making our education system the best it can be.
Our communities deserve an economy where a full-time job can support a household again. To address this we need to increase people’s wages, protect the right to collectively bargain, expand accessible housing, implement universal child care, lower the costs of prescription drugs, curb the power of utilities, and strengthen tax relief for working families. We also need to invest in our infrastructure, and small businesses so residents can build stable careers and have communities people want to thrive in.
I am for a smart grid, renewable energy, and accountability from utilities for any outages and excessive charges. I will continue to protect the Great Lakes, fight against toxic waste, and see that energy and infrastructure projects create good-paying jobs for Michiganders without rate increases.
All Michigan residents should be treated with dignity and receive due process, and protection from unreasonable searches and seizures. I oppose racial profiling and actions that undermine trust between our communities and local government. We need to ensure access to legal counsel, clear information about rights, and lawful procedures when state or local agencies interact with federal immigration enforcement.

Our current system has been going down hill for decades. I would get rid of common core and go back to phonics. Give parents the right to choose their child’s education whether in public or private and whatever the school districts receive per child the parent gets to use for their private education. I would also DOGE every school to see where all the money is going and why our students are failing. Michigan is 45th in Education out of 50 states. That’s horrible. This needs to be taken seriously.
I don’t believe this is going to be an easy fix. I would like to see abandoned motels or run down turned into apartments or single family homes. Give the young married couples something they can afford. Have better incentives for small businesses!
Open pipeline 5 and DOGE DTE and CONSUMERS ENERGY. The last rate hike increase DTE gave their CEO’s a million dollar salary increase a year. Not acceptable.
We must abide by the constitution and THE RULES OF LAW! We have a process when applying to become a US citizen and it must be applied the same to everyone!

From picking cotton, to kitchen-helper, to the Specialty Foundry to electrician, I know about the lives of working class people
Not all districts are up to standards. Some do not have the materials they need. Many need more modern materials. And as far as college, you can be retired before paying off school loans. Children are our future. All schools should have high levels of funding for what the young people and the teachers need. Our tax money should be for high quality public education for all.
Our biggest problem now is everything is going up but our wages remain the same. With Working Class Party, our policy is that it will take a major fight by workers to earn a real living wage. Major stockholders may not like what it does to their profits, but, when the cost of living goes up, our wages should increase each time.
Utility bills shouldn’t be so high and keep getting higher every year. They claim they are replacing old equipment and tree trimming, but there are still power outages. The way it is now, corporations are in the driver’s seat. Their policies cause unreliable energy, high costs and pollution. When workers are in the driver’s seat, we can produce the clean energy needed, at low costs, where there is no profit, and protect the environment, like by installing better filtration systems as one example.
Due process is not fairly done. The powers that be pick on immigrants, citizen and non-citizen, and other working class people. At this time, the rights of immigrants and anyone who protests these unfair practices, are under attack. We, with Working Class Party, are for full citizenship for all and against what is like a dictatorship in the streets, with ICE. And it will take a fight by ordinary people, like in Minneapolis, to guarantee our constitutional rights.
