Michigan has made important progress on funding, particularly with the new weighted formula, increased per pupil funding, literacy investment, and resources to recruit and retain educators, but funding has to translate into measurable student outcomes. I support the shift toward evidence based literacy instruction and would build on it with a statewide accountability framework focused on literacy, attendance, graduation, and college or career readiness. I also support strengthening the teacher pipeline through fellowships, stipends, and targeted incentives for shortage areas while reducing unnecessary administrative burdens on educators.
I support raising wages while lowering the costs that eat away at them. That means protecting workers’ rights, expanding affordable housing, lowering healthcare and childcare costs, investing in transit, and growing higher wage industries so a working family can actually afford to live in Michigan.
I would require utilities to meet stronger reliability standards, tie rate increases to actual performance, and invest in grid modernization rather than passing inefficiency on to consumers. I also support expanding affordability protections, including income based payment programs, while accelerating cleaner energy sources that reduce long term fuel and environmental costs. Michigan’s energy policy should deliver three things at once: fewer outages, lower household costs, and cleaner air and water.
American law applies to all persons within American borders. I would however support legislation that provides a pathway for undocumented persons to have a drivers license.

I was a Wayne County Community College, District 2 Trustee for 6 years. Together with Teachers, Students & Staff we fought to fix problems. I'm a worker who knows what life for our class is like.
Nothing about the way education is organized today works for working people They warehouse us in poorly maintained buildings in oversized classes, with underpaid, overworked teachers, with underpaid, overworked & understaffed support. Working class schools are underfunded & lack the necessary resources to provide a quality education despite the valiant efforts of school staff.
We are forced to choose between public schools that have been deliberately gutted - destroying communities, or for profit schools who look at students as dollar signs. The money is there to give all students a quality education but it'll take a fight to get it.
I'd use the office to organize a fight to make society work for working people & to end the domination of billionaires over society. Workers generate all the wealth of society, we make everything, & we make everything run. If we are organized we can make it stop if it doesn't work for us.
Wages should be tied to prices, so when prices go up, wages immediately go up as well to combat inflation. I would encourage the prosecution, liquidation & public control over companies that gouge the public. I would try & organize a fight to ban mandatory overtime, excessive hours or workloads and for every job to pay a good wage.
Working people need control over industry. The oligarchs who control it produce for profit & not the needs of working people. They pillage & pollute the earth with no regard for what future generations will be forced to face, or who it harms today. Companies that ruin the world in pursuit of profit should be liquidated or given over to public control.
Energy companies cut corners to get rich, they lay off the workers needed to maintain the infrastructure only fixing things after they fail. If working people were in charge, we'd hire enough people to update & maintain our energy grid & invest in technology to address global warming.
Anyone who works & contributes to society should be a full member of that society. ICE uses immigrants as a scapegoat & excuse to build up detention centers which are a step towards an authoritarian police state. Along with flock cameras & AI data centers, the wealthy are preparing tools to use against us. They know we are fed up. They know the horrible future they are making. The know how powerful we are when we are organized.
They are trying to interfere in education, threatening universities, media & news outlets & going after journalists in order to scare us into silence. We must oppose all their efforts to build a police state.
