What do you see as the role of the library in your community?
What is your motivation for running for this office?
What are the two most critical issues facing your office? How do you propose to deal with them?
I am a retired regulatory specialist in the pharmaceutical industry and Adjunct Professor from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. After 30+ years of interactions in a multi-cultural environment, I learned that listening fully and completely to others and remaining curious are ways to develop and maintain respectful relationships. I recognize there will be a learning curve if elected, but the strengths that I bring to the position are the skills of listening, collaboration, administration, instruction, and communication.
The Rockwell falls Library is a core resource for our community and I intend to advocate and expand the programs which support socialization and human connection (book club, children and adult programming specials), and resources for personal growth and development (resume writing, computer literacy). One of the most critical programs, Farm to Table Thursdays, is a wonderful way to keep us eating nutritionally balanced meals, thanks to the generosity of local farms and the dutiful oversight of library staff.
Maintaining, and in some cases expanding, critical services and resources is my motivation for running for this office. When my husband and I moved to Lake Luzerne in June 2024, we immediately visited the library to obtain library cards, and I joined the Book Club. We have now experienced two winters here in Lake Luzerne, and as a newcomer, I am forever grateful for the human connection the library provides throughout the long, cold, winter. I observed people of all ages and backgrounds enjoying multiple activities, special programing and meet-ups, and sustaining nutrition through the farm to table Thursdays. It's plain to see, this library is the heart of our cozy community.
Maintaining and expanding the teen programming which has been steadily growing. This is a critical resource and I'd work diligently to preserve it. In order to continue the critical connection with growing teens, I'd like to offer opportunities for mentorship around the trades and arts. For example, we could offer a series of fixer upper classes over the winter lead by plumbers, HVAC, electricians which are open to the public, with a special invitation to area teens. This type of program offers multi-generational opportunities for connection and mentorship, preparing the children for skilled trades in high school, and be a gateway to steady employment.
