South Carolina State House District 120
The South Carolina House of Representatives consists of 124 part-time citizen legislators elected every two years to represent our state's 124 separate single-member districts. Representatives are elected at-large by their district, and there are no term limits. Representatives must be 21 years of age before they are eligible to become a representative. As outlined by South Carolina's Constitution, the General Assembly's annual session begins on the second Tuesday in January and runs through the second Thursday in May.NOTE: If a candidate's answers are not visible, the candidate may not have completed the survey prior to our publication date. Qualifications
29 years work in the U.S. Federal Government, including the U.S. FDA and U.S. Department of the Interior. 10 years professional work as a dental hygienist.
Education
Masters of International Policy Studies 1986 and Bachelors of Health Science 1975
I believe, early voting, absentee voting, and mail-in voting with identification must always be permitted. Provide service to get out to assisted living facilities. Adequate number of polling locations should be provided to reach all populations. Rely on timely certification of voting by state election authorities.
Police may be stationed outside polls, but military, National Guard or ICE should never be present.
Mail-in ballots must be adequately monitored to ensure correct votes. U.S. Post Office should safely process the mail, but not hold up any ballot. Ballots must be counted accurately and timely, allowing all postmarked by election date to be counted.
Provide optimum salaries for teachers and staff. Provide safe and comfortable facilities. Give students the time and attention needed to learn. Give children time for physical activity and breaks. Provide instruction in basics of math, language and reading; art, music, civics. Provide teaching English as a second language for all grades.
Expand Medicaid and Medicare. Bring back Affordable Care Act provisions. Help Planned Parenthood provide services. Get OBGYNS into counties currently without them. Allow Nurse Practitioners, Physicians Assistants, Physical therapists to practice the treatments they have trained for to the ultimate in their licensure.
ONLY if they put in measures to protect the environment (i.e. control water usage for contaminants and temperature); pay taxes as a rate that is equitable and not detrimental to the community; reduce noise levels that neighboring communities are not affected.
