Berkeley County Probate Judge
The probate court assists the citizens of the county in probating estates, resolving disputes in estates and trusts, handling involuntary commitments for alcohol/drug abuse and/or mental illness, obtaining marriage licenses, appointing and supervising guardians and conservators, and approving minor and wrongful death settlements. Please explain what makes you uniquely qualified to serve as County Probate Judge.
What plans do you have for the probate office to assist individuals needing help navigating the probate process?
How will you make it easier for executors to go through probate with simple wills, without having to hire an attorney?
Please describe your plans for providing informational resources to the citizens of the County (e.g., consumer advocates, online information, phone hotline, etc.).

Experience
Former Probate Judge for Dorchester County for over 10 years. More than twenty (20) years of judicial experience.
I previously served as Dorchester County Probate Judge for over 10 years. After retiring, I continued to serve as Dorchester County Drug Court Judge and have also served as the Municipal Court Judge for the Town of Holly Hill. For the past two years, I have served as the Senior Associate Judge for Berkeley County and am incredibly excited about returning to the Probate Court full time.
Berkeley County has always been an incredibly friendly court for both our constituents and attorneys. We intend to keep that same open door policy but are working hard to improve technology so that our customers can accomplish more from the comfort of their home. I recently implemented online marriage applications and we are just weeks away from implementation of a new software that will be more user friendly for our staff, families and attorneys.
Berkeley County has always had great customer service ratings and helpful staff. We plan to implement better technology to reduce trips to the court but always welcome executors, attorneys and beneficiaries to come to the court for assistance.
We are weeks away from a new software program which will improve the probate process for our staff, customers and attorneys. We've also worked hard on our phone and email systems to make sure our customers can always reach a live person!
Court Administration has a streamlined process for conflicts of interest. I would comply with their process and make sure everyone involved understood how to proceed.
