Maintaining a quality education, supporting staff, and being a conservative steward of taxpayer dollars.
It is important to understand the difference between federal, state and local funding. How these funds are generated, and what I, as a board member, can control. As a current Business Manager of the Billings County School District, I have a unique insight of this understanding. I know what to expect from these different sources and can therefore make sure our budget is sustainable and obtainable.
Through policy and guidance the role of the school board member is to ensure academic success of the students and fiscal responsibility of the district. My role is to create an environment that allows the students, teachers, and administrators to succeed.
Recruitment starts with highlighting the strengths of the district and the community. Expressing a culture of commitment of not only the staff, but of the students too. I also understand that we need to be competitive with our wages and benefits. What's the ol' saying, "Money talks".
I believe in order to be a champion of the school district, I need to be a positive voice of support for the students, teachers, administrators, and the community. I will need to be seen by the community, parents, and students as an individual that has their interest at heart. I believe as a champion of the school district I need to advocate at the county and state levels also to make sure our district is receiving its fair share of public funds.
