Lowering property tax for home owners while making sure big businesses pay their fair share.
Protecting the school system from frivolous budget cuts.
Our school system is in disarray after shortsighted budget cuts. Not enough attention has been paid to how we got in this mess to begin with, which owes a lot to the reckless tax incentives that have been given to big businesses to buy up land in Grand Forks. We need to continue to incentivize home ownership for citizens through tax relief while insuring that big businesses are paying their fair share.
We should be pursuing progressive tax incentives that assist homeowners while making it harder for real estate companies to hike up living expenses.
It already has, we’ve seen from the school budget crisis that we are not supporting our school budgets enough to maintain the educational excellence that Grand Forks citizens have enjoyed. A further reduction in property tax is going to give pennies to homeowners and huge handouts to big companies.
With any candidate you need to look for non-negotiables, which for me are the schools. I am willing to be very cooperative when it comes to a lot of things, but when it comes to schools I am never going to vote against the interest of our schools, teachers, and students.
